Industry legend Sid Sarbutts killed in accident
One of the tackle trade’s best- known faces of the past 40 years – Sid Sarbutts – has died following a car accident in the North Yorkshire village where he lived, in the UK. It is understood that
80-year-old Sid,who headed upMustad in the UK for more than 25 years, was killed following the collision as he walked along a road in his village in early November 2016. Sid’s first contact with the
tackle trade came in 1972 when the investment company he ran – ColonsayHouse Investments – acquired fishing wholesaler Richard Forshaw&Co.
Industry legend Sid Sarbutts. Te firm went on to buy
E R Craddock, one of the largest independent rod makers in the UK, then rod component suppliers Astwood Capstan and Astwood Engineering. After resigning from
ColonsayHouse in 1979, he was approached byMustad to head up its recently formed
UK operation, moving from a packing satellite of the parent company to become a standalone supplier to the wholesale trade of an expanded range of accessories. Although he left the
industry in 2009, his legacy also included the development of the AnglingTrades Association andTe Angling Foundation during the 1980s. He kept in touch with many of his old tackle trade colleagues. He leaves wife Carole,
two children and two grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all in the industry who knew him.

DRAGON PHASES IN THE GRANDO NAME
Famous British fly fishing supplier Dragon Tackle is gradually phasing in a new name for its company as it looks towards a bright future. Initially the name Grando will
be brought in as a brand name under Dragon Tackle, but the plan is for the company to eventually be renamed Grando as it looks towards growing its business in the UK and Europe. The company’s owner, Terry
Clease, told Tackle TradeWorld: “There are a lot of Dragons out there in the tackle market and it can be confusing for everyone. “We already offer an extensive
range of fly selections packaged under our Dragon Tackle brand and, in time, these will be improved and evolve into the Grando brand, with little or no disruption to our current program.”
