WASTE RECYCLING
Fercell Engineering shredders ideal for all aluminium swarf
F ERCELL Engineering Ltd have discovered a new, effi cient waste management solution for all aluminium- based swarf, writes SAMUEL McKEOWN.
These type of swarf materials, when disposed of, usually result in high costs and are an environment issue.
Metal chips from computer numerical control (CNC) machining processes lead to high volumes of waste material, which when disposed, means wasted revenue.
The company is now able to off er aluminium shredding machines for aluminium swarfs, which can be used in conjunction with Fercell Engineering’s aluminium briquetting Weima machines.
These include the HD 514 & HD 614 Briquetting press machines, and the High Pressure Matrix Briquetting press range which includes the TM 600M and TH 800M (right).
This new way of handling aluminium swarf materials has many benefi ts, including a reduction of material volume for decreased storage space and transportation costs. Oil and other coolants can be cleaned and separated
from the metal swarfs and reused, which is both cost eff ective and environmentally friendly. Swarfs can also be shredded to the right size, before successfully pressed in the briquette machine.
Shredding alone can reduce the material volume signifi cantly, therefore decreasing the cost of storing or transportation.
In addition, the shredded chips can be processed in a centrifuge, in order to reduce the content of oil and emulsion, so they can be recycled and reused.
Requires short chips
In addition, briquetting requires short chips. A shredder is quite often the perfect solution to prepare the material, in advance of briquetting.
Metal chips resulting from CNC machine processing leads to high volumes of valuable waste material, which have to be disposed of at high cost. Highly compacted briquettes can be sold at much better prices to metal recycling companies.
Metal briquettes have many advantages, including optimised stock space and decreased transportation costs.

Briquetting also leads to a separation of the coolants from the solid chips. These expensive coolants, such as oil or emulsion, can be cleaned and afterwards brought back to the production process.
The savings potential for lubricants is up to 95% when using a briquetting press. As a result, briquetting reflects a responsible behaviour concerning health and the environment, while ultimately saving on cost.
