YORKSHIRE T

he Yorkshire Club recently held its AGM at Hampsthwaite, Harrogate. Chris Hardcastle was elected as president for a second year, Roger Hildreth elected as chairman. Andrew Ayrton remains treasurer and Rachel Coates as secretary.

Following the meeting, members were treated to a presentation by Jennifer Hardcastle on her recent trip to Africa. It was an enthralling and at times moving talk about farming and other aspects of life in Kenya. Jennifer went to Kenya on her placement year from Harper Adams University. She was

working as part of the technical team of Vital Animal Health, a Kenyan company specialising in mineral supplements for ruminant livestock. During her time there, as well as seeing many different types of farming, Jennifer went on safari, trekked to see gorillas and helped in a Nairobi orphanage.

The Club president

congratulated HYB member Lydia Griffiths, as following on from her Little Star success she had been selected to attend the World Holstein Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina, along with three other youth

representatives from the UK. The Club has a full program of events planned over the summer if you would like more information about Yorkshire Holstein Club, please contact the Secretary Rachel Coates on 07821 620725

behalf of the Club a cheque for £668.56 to The Farming Community Network, received on their behalf by Patrick Grange. Member of the Year was presented to David Rutter. Those attending were also treated by honorary life member Dick Stapleton to the story of his life from school days with goats, herd management at Caythorpe Agricultural College, through AI companies and Holstein UK to the present day. Western Spring Show at South View Equestrian Centre on 6th April drew a large crowd and those who came along were able to admire the high quality of animals on show. The Club was thrilled to see animals

from a number of counties – full results are on the website. Thank you to everyone who attended or took part in any way.

Focus now turns to the Spring Bull Show and Sale, stock judging evenings and also to hosting stands at Cheshire and Nantwich Shows. It’s worth mentioning that this year’s Wexham Cup will move forward to 1st September 2016.

Lastly, the Club would like to remember John Richardson who passed away in April – a former Club chairman and president who was a great supporter. He will be sadly missed.
