92 STAFFORDSHIRE S

taffordshire’s Winter Classic Competition took place on January 20th. Judge Steve Miller from Shanael visited the 10 entrants' farms and was kept on schedule by steward Chris Howe. Many thanks to Mary Marshall for providing a quick lunch.

Results were finalised in time for the presentation of awards which followed a good evening meal at The Coach and Horses, Abbotts Bromley.

Before presenting the prizes Steve congratulated all the entrants, remarking on the quality of all the cattle he had enjoyed seeing during the day. The herd winning the Cope award, for the most points across all the classes, was A and D MacKellar, Drointon. Vote of thanks was given by the chairman Janet Law which concluded the Winter Classic event.

On Friday 11th March the Club’s Dinner Dance was held at Branston Golf Club for the second year running. Helen Pickford sourced the beef and 120 members and guests were treated to a fantastic meal. After toasts to the Queen and Holstein UK, Janet Law, chairman, presented the Holstein UK Award to Beth Robinson, HYB member, for her work throughout 2015 supporting the HYB members, who as a team have had outstanding success at local and national events. Janet then presented gifts to Maureen and Chris Howe, joint secretaries, for all their work in organising events throughout the year. Members and guests enjoyed a sociable evening and danced the night away. The AGM was held on the 23rd March and the following officers were elected: president, Pat Hill; vice- president, John Lomax; chairman, Pete Marshall; vice- chairman, Paul Stubbs. Joint secretaries remain as Maureen and Chris Howe, with Maureen also as treasurer.

After the business was concluded, an excellent talk and presentation followed given by Eric Easom and his wife Fiona, going into great detail regarding the anaerobic digester system they have successfully built on their farm.
