Coming through as the winner of the senior heifer class she calved in October and is giving 45kg a day. Her show success is improving on every outing; she stood third at the Royal Ulster Winter Fair in December and then second at Emerald Expo. Classified VG87 she is by Allyndale-I Attic and out of a Mr Minister sired dam. “The intermediate champion is a beautifully balanced heifer with strength of top, depth of rib and a tremendous udder. She had advantage for overall depth of body, strength and veination and bloom in her udder,” commented Mr Barrett. Taking reserve spot were the Henry family with the second prize senior heifer, Fordwich


Saratoga Agnes. Classified VG87 and backed by six generations of VG and EX dams, being out of Fordwich Primetime Agnes EX90, she was purchased privately from William Kerr in February. Calved in December and giving 30kg a day, she was on her first outing. “The reserve heifer is a really balanced heifer with beautiful dairy qualities,” added Mr Barrett.


In the other classes Conor McAufield’s April 2015-born heifer, Lissue Doorman Faith, stood top of the maiden heifer class. Sired by Val-Bisson Doorman her dam is Lissue Seaver Faith 3 VG85. Shestood first maiden heifer and reserve junior champion at the Irish National Show.


Winning the in-calf heifer class was Martin and Cyril Millar’s January 2014-born Millars Galaxy Maeve. She is in-calf to sexed Flame and already has


ET calves on the ground by Alta Firstclass. Her dam is Willsbro Atlas Maeve EX93 who stood honourable mention at Balmoral Show 2014. The Henry family won the junior heifer in milk class with Mostragee Frankie Ellie, a February 2014-born heifer that was shown one month fresh and giving 34kg. Sired by the home bred Iota son, Mostragee Iota Frankie, she is out of Mostragee Amazing Ellie VG85. She stood third at Northern Ireland’s Calf Show 2015. In the 50 tonne production class it was the reserve champion Hallow Advent Twizzle that stood top. She has yielded more than 66,000kg to date in her five lactations. Hallow Holsteins also won the exhibitor pairs class with reserve grand champion Hallow Advent Twizzle 3 EX95-2E and intermediate champion Hallow Attic Christina VG87.

The second calver class was a major talking point of the Holstein judging with quality right down the line.


The winner of the third calver class was honourable mention winner Priestland 5235 PS James Rose, second Clongowes Atwood Thelma and third Glasson Shottle G Glora.
