SOUTH EASTERN S

pring kicked off with a great talk by John Torrance from Curtismill, he clearly explained his breeding policy, including a lot of facts from his time at Holstein UK. He emphasised the need for good staff morale, cow health and welfare which is paying dividends in the fantastic new housing for the herd.

He also outlined the benefits paying attention to health traits had achieved for his herd from changes in his sire selection, analysing cows and families to see what is actually lasting in the herd. It was a fascinating insight into a tremendous herd of cows, and we are proud to

have the Torrance family as members of the Club.

This was followed by the results of the winter herd competition with thanks to our judge, Jim Arnett who did a fantastic job.

Group of six - Bodle Brothers’ cup Ben Dyer, Onco-land

Lifetime production cow Mike Goddard, Guston

The Club has a packed spring programme before the showing season kicks off.

Club skittles, followed by stock judging practise at Thakeham

Holsteins and the final at Onco-land.

Good luck to Mike Deakins and Luke Harris both on new paths as classifiers at HUK. We all wish them the best of luck and look forward to welcoming them onto our farms.

Another enjoyable evening was Maxine and Holly’s presentation of their trip to Cremona show last year. The girls did a tremendous job with a lot of content in their presentation and made us all envious of the time they spent there.
