Felicia Walls A World Turned Upside Down F elicia Walls spent six years in the Army
Reserve and loved every single minute of it. Afterwards, the Washington native spent 14 years in customer service, a field in which she thrived. Felicia enjoyed working and her future looked very promising.
“Then it happened,” Felicia said. “My life was turned upside down.”
Felicia left her office one day during the lunch hour to drive to a nearby eatery for a bite when she was rear-ended while waiting at a traffic light. “I had a shoulder injury that damaged the tendons and ligaments and required surgery, which just doesn’t heal very fast. About a year later, I was almost back to feeling good when I was hit a second time, this time by a drunk driver. I couldn’t even sit down without hurting, and I certainly couldn’t go back to work.”
Then it happened... My life was turned upside down.
After another couple of years of rehabilitation, Felicia finally healed enough from the accidents and started thinking about finding a new job. “I just wanted to test the waters,” Felicia said. “I didn’t feel like I could approach employers and say I could work for them if I actually couldn’t. I wanted to ease back into the workforce with
some type of part-time or temporary position and that is when I became associated with the folks at Express Employment Professionals. They were so enthusiastic and helpful. They have been wonderful at finding me the perfect jobs where I have been able to work without being in too much pain. In fact, I have been able to handle every job I’ve been sent on.”
The types of jobs Felicia has accepted have been varied, but that’s fine with her. She’s worked at a car dealership, answered phones, and became proficient at data entry.
“I really like the idea that my jobs have been so different and challenging in their own ways,” she said.
“Today, I don’t stress about work like I used to,” Felicia said. “My shoulder has finally healed enough, so I’m beginning to look for a full-time job, something with benefits, hopefully.”
Now that Felicia is starting to feel stronger, she enjoys spending time with her two rat terriers. “I like to ride my bike in the beautiful parks around here. I don’t go very fast, so my dogs manage to stay up with me. We also love to go what I call dog-park hopping. I take them from one scenic dog park to another. In between, the terriers hop in my car and take naps till we get to the next stop. Then they jump out ready to play again. They are a lot of fun.”
With the support of the staff at Express, her friends, and her two dogs, Felicia has kept a positive attitude toward her job hunt, confident that her next assignment just might be a full- time position.
