Carrie Harmes Life in Focus
C arrie Harmes has a love for learning. In
high school, Carrie focused on academics, was a member of the National Honor Society, and graduated valedictorian. When Carrie attended the University of Louisiana in Lafayette she discovered a passion for photography, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in visual arts and photography. Unfortunately, jobs were hard to come by for photographers, so Carrie spent several years working in the food service industry.
Carrie later married and took some time off from work to raise a family. When Carrie’s youngest child was less than two years old, Carrie returned to college and earned her MBA with a specialization in accounting from Colorado State University in Pueblo. She is now studying to become a certified public accountant.
Carrie’s first big break occurred when she began searching for career opportunities online. In the spring of 2012, Carrie found several advertisements placed by Express Employment Professionals for positions in her field of accounting and financial services.
“I went in for an interview and Express took the time to match my talents and training with the skills their clients were looking for,” Carrie said. “Even though I was fresh out of school and jobs were still tough to find, they found a really good fit for me with an excellent company. Then they followed up several times to make sure the placement was working out for both me and the employer.
“In my first position, I helped start a tax preparation service and that job was a spring- board to a career with the same firm, assisting senior citizens with their estate planning. I am currently the office manager. In addition

to my accounting responsibilities, I am looking forward to working on the development of a quarterly newsletter for our clients.”
Working with Express has given Carrie’s career a tremendous boost. They were able to find positions for her with companies she would not have had access to otherwise.
At this point, Carrie’s primary career goal is to assist in the growth of the tax preparation and financial planning departments where she works as she pursues her CPA.
In her personal life Carrie cherishes the time she spends with her family. She loves the simple things they do together from planting a garden to playing in the backyard.
“I want to be a really good role model for my kids. I want to provide an example of achieving success, hard work, and self discipline but I also want them to know that it is equally important to be devoted to your family. Like everyone, I’m busy, but I know this time with the kids is short and I want to enjoy it as much as I can,” Carrie said.
