Megan Plopper First Thing Every Morning F inding a job in a small town can be difficult.
Finding a job with enough flexibility to attend college classes and still leave one with time to study, can be even more challenging.
But when Megan Plopper’s friends suggested that Express Employment Professionals could help her find a job to accommodate her class schedule, Megan immediately scheduled an appointment.
Megan was impressed with the honesty of her staffing consultant when he explained from the beginning that the only jobs he could offer her would be temporary assignments due to her schedule. Megan enjoyed the variety of jobs because she learned different skill sets. She worked with Express for two months and then accepted an internship with the State of Illinois. Following her internship, as she neared graduation at Benedictine University at Springfield, Illinois, the psychology major again turned to Express.
“I really had no clue how hard it was going to be to find a job,” she said. “After two months of sending out résumés and filling out applications, I asked Express for help. They quickly found me a job as a case worker helping low income families find assistance.”
Unfortunately Megan’s job was eliminated by budget cuts, and she returned to Express seeking another position. She was pleasantly surprised when they offered her a job working in their office. She accepted on the spot and went to work as a receptionist.
Shortly thereafter, the love of her life convinced her to relocate with him from Illinois to Kansas.
Megan hoped moving to another state might yield a job that would make use of her degree. Once in Kansas, Megan began her job search again and took several volunteer positions within the community. She still had expenses from college to repay so she called Express once more.
“I wasn’t worried because I knew from past experience that if you want to work, Express will help you find something,” Megan said. “It doesn’t matter what level of education you have, they will help you find a job. Their level of professionalism is the best. After a couple of months in a job, they’ll follow up with you. If you aren’t happy with what you are doing, they’ll find you something else. They want people to be happy in their jobs.”
Megan says her life has changed as the result of her relationship with Express Employment Professionals. Express once gave her a book called, First Thing Every Morning. It’s a book that she still reads daily for inspiration.
“I learned different skills at each job to make me well-rounded,” Megan said. “So now when I go to apply for a job, I feel I am more likely to be picked because I have experience in so many areas.”
Megan’s goal is to find a job working with youth, instilling in them a positive outlook on life. She knows that Express Employment Professionals will be there to help her reach that goal.
