Inder Narang Determined to Succeed I nder Narang was inspired by three men in
his life: his late father, an uncle who became a successful entrepreneur, and his grandfather who built a career in the police force. Their examples pushed him to work hard and make something of himself.
Inder was born and raised in New Delhi, India. His family was able to pay for a university education for him and he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. Inder was determined to become totally independent and financially successful. He found a job right out of school, but after nine months, he discovered that there was no opportunity for advancement. As he researched other engineering positions that might be available, he became increasingly discouraged. There were very few openings. The work was hard and the pay was low.
Inder’s brother had immigrated to the United States and he encouraged him to move as well. When Inder arrived in New York, he had great expectations but he soon found new obstacles to his dreams. The engineering positions he applied for required more experience than he had and he ended up working as a sales associate in a department store. Despite this setback, Inder constantly kept his eyes open for new opportunities and spent his free time researching engineering firms on the Internet.
After a year in New York, he decided that he should move to Los Angeles, California and look for work in the aerospace industry.
When Inder arrived in L.A., he had no job and no contacts. He managed to find a job as a machinist, but it was not what he ultimately wanted. Inder began working and going to a local community college to continue his studies
in engineering. This was a difficult time because he didn’t have a car and usually had to walk everywhere. Inder persevered, continuing to refine his skills, update his résumé, and apply to help wanted ads.
Fortunately for Inder, one of those ads was placed by Express Employment Professionals. After evaluating his skills and experience, the staff at Express immediately came up with two possible positions. The first job didn’t work out because it was too far from where he lived and Inder didn’t have transportation. However, when he interviewed at the second company they told him that he looked like the perfect match–someone willing to take on a variety of engineering assignments and ready to work hard to get ahead.
“After two and a half years of struggle in the U.S., I feel so lucky that I found Express,” Inder said. “They took the time to find out what I wanted and then matched me with the perfect company. The work environment is great, my co-workers are nice, and I have the chance to move up if I do well.”
Because of his job, Inder has been able to move into a new studio apartment and has extra spending money.
His goals in life are simple and straight-forward. He wants to earn the respect of his family and his co-workers. Although he is only 26, Inder seems well on his way to achieving all of his goals and then some.
“I am just grateful that I was able to move to America,” he said. “There is so much more opportunity and a better lifestyle. I feel fortunate to be here.”
