NESE GROUP This company is a real estate company and also oper- ates in the bar and restaurant sector and has casino and slot hall operations in Lithuania. Founded in 1991 the company is headed by director Inga Cesnakiene and Nese was awarded the title of second fastest growing company in the Klaipeda region and one of 15 fastest growing companies in Lithuania in Gazele in 2006.


Nese is the second largest gaming company in the coun- try. The company also operates slot halls in Romania.


In Lithuania the company has three casinos and four slot halls. The four slot halls are called Nese Slots with three located in Klaipeda and one in Vilnius. The casi- nos are:


NESE PRAMOGU BANKAS VILNIUSwhich has four American Roulette tables, eight card tables and 30 slots.


NESE PRAMAGU BANKAS KLAIPEDAis a cosy casino with three American Roulette tables, six card tables and 30 slots. There is a VIP room and the Nese Whisky Bar.


NESE CASINO AKROPOLIS KLAIPEDAis a com- fortable 24/7 casino with the Café de Nese and two American Roulette tables, three card tables and 33 slots.


VSGA VSGA was established in 2003 and operates under the brand Casino Tornado. The company today has four casinos in the country although prior to 2012 there were two casinos operating in Vilnius in the Antakalnis and Seskine districts.


CASINO TORNADO, ANTAKALNIS in Vilnius has 39 Category A slot, six card tables, two American Roulette and a VIP room and the bar Tornado.


CASINO TORNADO SESKINE in Vilnius has 36 Category A slots, five card tables, two American Roulette, VIP room and bar Tornado.


CASINO TORNADO SIAULIAI has 30 Category A slots, six card tables, one American Roulette, a VIP room and Poker Club.


CASINO TORNADO KLAIPEDA has 36 Category A slots, seven card tables, three American Roulette, VIP room, bar and Poker Club.


SAVAS KAZINO SAVAS KAZINO operates the Nautilus Casino in Kaunas offering slots and table games.


OTHER GAMBLING SECTORS SPORTS BETTING


Sports betting was legalised in 2001 when the Gaming Act came into force and the main reason was to increase revenue for the state budget. The first sports betting companies jumped on board immediately and by 2009 four companies were involved in sports betting activi- ties in Lithuania which has remained to date.


TOP SPORT is the largest betting company in the coun- try and has 89 betting shops across the country in 34 towns and cities. It was also the first to open a shop in Kaunas in 2002 and the halls are often found in shop-

ping centres. Top Sport later partnered with Maxima LT, IKI, Rimi, Prisma and some others and on average has around 10,000 customers per day.


The company launched an i-betting service in 2005 and telephone betting a year later. In 2008 they began accepting bets on dog racing and launched dog racing online in 2010. Top Sport also operates eight gaming halls


ORAKULAS is one of the leading betting companies in Lithuania and has 48 betting shops. They offer bets on any sports and entertainment from dog racing, interac- tive games and live bets.


The company was established in 2003 and began its activities that same year in Vilnius. The betting shops are usually between 20 and 100sq.m in size and have flat screen TVs for live transmission. Customers can bet on most sporting events plus they have a lottery organ- ised by Orakulas with maximum winnings of LTL25,000.


Other betting companies include Losimu Strategine Grupe (Tony Bet) which was founded in 2009 by the businessman Antana Guoga (Tony G) after he took over OmniBet. Tony Bet has 29 betting shops in Lithuania.


The fourth company is Baltic Bet which has 16 locations and was established in 2008 opening its first betting agency in Vilnius.


There has been no real changes in legislation for this sector bar a few tax changes and there is little competi- tion from overseas bookmakers however there has

Horse racing is one popular sport and Lithuania is famous for its Sartai Horse Racing and this is an annual festival held in Aukstaitija National Park near to the town of Dusetos. It is over a hundred years old and according to history the first horse race was held on the frozen Sartai Lake in the 19th century when a rich man chal- lenged his poor servant to win a bride they both desired. The young servant rode an old horse and carriage whilst the rich man rode his best horse with carriage. The young servant won and the master ordered him to be beaten
