Metcal’s New Solder Wire Feeder Cuts Soldering Time

Cypress, CA —Metcal has introduced its USF-1000 solder wire feeder, designed to add a new level of control and convenience to the soldering process. With the ability to integrate easily with the compa- ny’s MX-5200 or MX-500 series solder systems, the solder wire feeder increases soldering speed while eliminating wasteful tangles and unspooling. The MX-5200 series has the option of dual-si-

multaneous use, meaning that two handpieces can work from one power supply at the same time. The dynamic option enables the two handpieces to share 80W of output power based on demand, adding ap- plication flexibility and speed. Four different hand- pieces and a comprehensive range of soldering and rework cartridges support the MX-5200. These in- clude the Metcal Advanced™ handpiece for SMD re- work, a Metcal Ultra-Fine™ hand- piece for fine access, a precision tweezer capable of removing a range of components from 0201 chips to 28 mm (1.1 in.) SOICs, and a desoldering gun to safely remove through-hole components.

All Flex Compiles Flexible Circuit Videos

Northfield, MN — All Flex has com- piled a library of videos as an educa- tional resource for customers, design engineers and electronic technicians interested in flexible circuitry. Unlike rigid printed circuit

boards, flexible circuits serve more than an electrical function within a device or electronic package and are highly-customized in their material selection, mechanical properties and overall construction. With the large number of varia-

tions in flexible circuit design, OEM engineers struggle to understand all of the options, and how flexible cir- cuits can be used to solve problems or meet the key requirements of their electronic packages. Despite an established level of

written documentation available on flexible circuitry, customers still de- mand one-on-one education on de- sign principles, options to solve prob- lems, and a general knowledge of flexible circuitry. By providing a se- ries of videos, customers can more quickly and easily understand flex circuits instead of trying to filter through design guides to figure out how to apply the technology to partic- ular requirements. The industry has lacked “how-

to” style videos that communicate di- rectly to engineers about flexible cir- cuit technologies. All Flex engineers and technical experts present the in- formation in the videos rather than professionally skilled speakers. This reinforces the company’s commitment to designers and the engineering com- munity by enabling engineer-to-engi-

neer dialog and communication. Contact: All Flex, Inc., 1705

Metcal also offers its Scorpion rework system,

a precise machine that addresses the technical de- mands of today’s component manufacturers. The company’s automatic placement package is capa- ble of 50 mm (2 in.) of motorized travel in the z- axis and a full 360° in theta. The automatic place- ment package offers fine motor control in the z- axis and theta during alignment of the component to the pad. Force feedback control during the placement process enables the unit to accurately pick and place components without disturbing the
