ABOUT THIS MAGAZINE: inbusiness is a bi-monthly publication and digital magazine distributed to 6,000 Chamber members and key businesses in Northamptonshire. The publication focuses on news and information about local companies and the initiatives and advice available to increase the prosperity of county firms. Northamptonshire Chamber welcomes newsworthy articles of business interest, giving preference to Chamber members. As editorial space is limited, inclusion cannot be guaranteed and the editor may amend or reject articles submitted.

voice of local boot and shoe manufacturers who were concerned about exports during the First World War. The landmark anniversary we’re celebrating this year

means we are not only the county’s largest business support agency we are also one of its oldest too. Throughout the past 100 years the Chamber has

lobbied local authorities in Northamptonshire, key regional organisations, Westminster MPs and national government on behalf of our members with considerable success. Our members include sole traders, SMEs, large

PLCs and global organisations and together they employ more than one third of Northamptonshire’s workforce. Along with our sister Chamber, Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce, we are one of the fastest growing Chambers in the UK and are the 10th largest Chamber in the country. Throughout 2017 we will be organising a range of events to mark our centenary and we will

alert members to how they can take part in the celebrations. This will include 100 activities in 100 days which we will launch in May with an event at Barton Hall. We will also be releasing two commemorative centenary publications alongside our regular inbusiness magazines. On that note I am pleased to report that we have plenty of good news to write about

following our success at the latest Chamber Awards which were held by the British Chambers of Commerce in November. For the third year in a row we won the coveted Excellence in Membership Services award and

we were once again a finalist in the Chamber of the Year category which we won in 2015. This success would not have been possible without the invaluable support we receive from

our Board, partners, stakeholders and members. We were also pleased to see positive news emerging from our latest Quarterly Economic

Survey. Nearly 100 businesses, representing more than 8,500 employees in the county, responded to the latest survey which covered the three months from October to December 2016. It revealed that sales for manufacturers had bounced back, there was good news from
