ISSUE SPOTLIGHT: BUSINESS PROTECTION
DRIVING HOME THE MESSAGE OF SAFETY
Employers have a legal duty of care to manage the security, safety and health of workers but many do not realise this includes ‘grey fleet’ drivers – those who drive their own cars for business use. Strategic Analytics Team (SAT)
will help small to medium-sized businesses manage the risks, not only to employees on the road, but also to businesses who could fall foul of the law without realising it. SAT is offering
defensive driver training courses that help business owners and employees drive in a safer manner and reduce fuel usage. The company also made history in November by launching the world’s first IVV Diamond accredited defensive driver education programme that focuses entirely on electric vehicles. SAT has also partnered with
‘AN EMPLOYER WHO DOESN’T PROVIDE ADEQUATE
TRAINING COULD BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE’
journey management software that
monitors mobile workforces, giving
real-time data to companies on the
Australian technology company JESI Management Solutions to provide a
whereabouts of their teams. It is particularly useful for companies with lone workers or in dangerous environments such as overhead line workers, motorway repair crews, sales representatives or health care professionals.
SAT senior partner Paul
Jorgensen said: “Under the law, an employer who doesn’t provide adequate training could be held liable for any damage or injury if the employee is in their own car and travelling on company business. Employers have a duty of care to their employees and that starts from the time they leave home to go to work to when they return home safely.”

WARNING ON DOMAIN SCAM
A leading global domain name registration company has issued a warning to businesses about a new fraud scam. Safenames Data Centre,
which has a base in Wellingborough, has warned that there has recently been a counterfeit renewal email circulating that informs domain registrants that their domain is expiring for a search engine listing, domain name listing and/or SEO listing service. Safenames sales director
Gavin Mills said: “Fraudulent companies do this by mining the WHOIS database and then using the information to send counterfeit emails to scam unknowing domain registrants into renewing services that do not actually exist. “They make the message so
confusing that it often works because registrants are led to believe that their domain is expiring. We would advise businesses to be vigilant and know your Safenames renewal emails will only ever come from us and this is likely to be the same for all domain registrars.”
