LEADING CHARITY REACHES MILESTONE
One of the UK’s leading children’s charities celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. Rushden-based charity
Spurgeons supports children and families affected by social disadvantage and during the past year it has delivered over 80 services, reaching more than 37,000 children and 64,000 parents or carers. Spurgeons works with

The first students have moved into a £13 million new college campus. Northampton College’s new Daventry Campus in Badby Road West
opened at the end of last year to enable students to make the most of a new Digital Academy, industry-standard workshops for motor vehicle engineering and hairdressing and beauty therapy salons. Courtney Savage, a Level 2 health and
social care student, said: “The new style feels like a step up from school and more like a university.” Level 3 childcare student Vicky Foulks
said: “With facilities like this on our doorstep it opens up a whole new world of possibilities.” The new campus features the very latest ICT

and Mac suites, teaching space for healthcare and childcare plus dedicated provision for students with learning difficulties and disabilities. The curriculum includes a range of study programmes that consist of
technical and professional qualifications plus maths and English and employability skills. Principal Pat Brennan-Barrett said: “Our new curriculum, with a focus on
preparing students for the world of work, is complemented by stunning facilities and unrivalled links with local employers. Our ambition is to make sure Daventry Campus students achieve their potential, gain their qualifications and move on to secure the best jobs possible.” Northampton College was awarded a £6.5m Local Growth Fund by the
South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) to part fund the campus. The development benefited from £2.9m passed on by Daventry District
Council as part of contributions made by developers towards local community facilities and infrastructure.

The organisation is Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce’s charity of the year and to mark the occasion our marketing manager Nick Blackmore (pictured) will run the Virgin London Marathon for Spurgeons on 23 April. He said: “I’m honoured to run
for Spurgeons because it helps so many families. “I’ve taken part in about a
dozen half-marathons over the years but this will be my first full marathon. I’ve been training hard and on average I’ve been running about 35 miles a week. “I hope lots of people will
sponsor me so I can raise as much money as possible.” Spurgeons chief executive Ross
Hendry added: “We’re delighted Nick has chosen to support Spurgeons. “It is through events like this and
