Travelling with children

It is usual for infants (0 to 23 months) to travel on their parents lap on our transfer coaches. We do not provide car seats for infants or children on our transfer coaches. If you are planning to bring your own car seat, it must be compatible with a 2-point lap belt and you are required to pay a £20 supplement to guarantee the seat on the coach. Please note that a 3-point child seat will not be compatible with the 2-point lap belts on our coaches. Children aged 2 to 14 years are allocated their own seat on the transfer coach and should wear the lap or seat belt provided. Passengers over the age of 14 are also advised to wear the lap or seat belt. If you wish to use a 3-point car seat or have an infant in a rear-facing car seat, you should book and pay for a private taxi transfer.

Yachting experience levels

To charter on bareboat and flotilla many countries now require you to hold a certificate of yachting competence from a recognised body such as the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). We would also recommend that the skipper of the yacht be assisted by at least one competent crew member. When booking your holiday we will ask for details of your qualifications and ask you to rate your level of experience. This is a critical part of your booking information as it helps us to ensure you have an appropriate and enjoyable holiday. All original certificates should be taken with you on flotilla or bareboat. The Neilson team will check on arrival prior to departure that at least one of the crew hold a valid certificate to skipper the yacht, if the certificate is not present they will not be able to charter with us. If in doubt about your experience levels, please call our team for further information.

Bareboat We require two persons aged 18 or over aboard each boat to have plenty of sailing experience, possibly on previous flotilla holidays, both must be comfortable sailing in a range of conditions and at least one person should hold a minimum of RYA Day Skipper qualification for non-tidal waters or ICC certificate. Acceptable certificates to charter a yacht bareboat are: International Certificate of Competence (ICC), RYA Day Skipper, RYA Coastal Skipper

Flotilla We require two persons aged 18 or over aboard each boat to have several days’ active experience in charge of a yacht. This experience may have been on a previous holiday, though both sailors should have had time in charge and at least one person should have a certified level of competence from a recognized body. Acceptable certificates to charter a yacht on flotilla are: International Certificate of Competence (ICC), RYA Yachtmaster, Day Skipper, RYA Coastal Skipper, RYA level 2 Keelboat, RYA level 2 sailing certificate (completed on yacht).

Stay and Sail All we ask is that two people aboard each boat are 18 or over, have a reasonable level of fitness and are keen to learn and that both complete the ‘Introduction to Yachting’ course during week one of the holiday. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the RYA level 2 sailing certificate, thereby fulfilling the requirements for chartering a yacht on flotilla. If training is not to be completed during week one we require two people to have experience as for a Flotilla holiday (see above).
