Going Out - Page 54 The English Choir

So far the English Choir of Teulada Moraira have had a very busy and successful year. In January and February they were welcomed at The Port Denia Hotel where they entertained the guests with great enthusiasm. In March the choir was delighted to be invited to arrange a concert at the Salon de Actos as part of the annual end of the year “Pensionista and Jubilados” celebrations. The concert was a resounding success and as a result they were asked to repeat the concert for members and relatives of the Alzheimer’s Day centre. In return the choirs

were treated to a buffet by grateful staff - another very happy occasion.

Now the Teulada based choir is to become more deeply involved with the Moraira Moors and Christians Fiesta, for the second year in succession. As they have done for many years the forty strong choir is expected to pack out the parish church with a concert which will feature excerpts from Rodgers and Hammerstein ‘Carousel’ and ‘The Sound of Music’. Gershwins ‘Summertime’ and lots of your other favourites from ‘Grease’ to Gilbert and Sullivan and Offenbach’s ‘Gendarme song’.

On the following Saturday 18th June the choir will go to battle stations on Moraira’s castle ramparts to sing the mood music during the very exciting battle re-enactment scenes on the beach. “We feel very privileged to play our part in an important event in the Moraira and Teulada calendar” said the choir’s president John Turner. “It is good that we get involved with the people of our adopted country. Under the competent baton of Joanna Baldwin the choir is as successful now as it has been at any time in its 30 year history.” The choir’s Autumn concert will take place on 5th November at the Salon de Actos Teulada and is entitled ‘A Year in Song’. The choir meet to rehearse from 4-6pm every Thursday in the Pensionista’s suite, off Teulada’s main square. If you would like information about forthcoming events or joining the choir please telephone Judith Haynes Secretary on 96 648 00195 or email: ronandju@gmail.com or contact John Turner the President on 651 909 819 email: johnraymondturner@gmail.com. Alternatively just drop in on a Thursday afternoon. You will be most welcome.
