An overdenture supported by implants: a simple and effective solution for uncomfortable dentures
Traditional dentures that rest on the gums very often cause problems which affect the quality of life of the wearer.
The most common problems tend to be friction on the gums which causes painful ulcers, the teeth moving whilst we eat or speak and thus preventing us from enjoying food and conversation, as well as the progressive loss of bone and gums thus making it necessary to have numerous ‘tweaks to the teeth’ by the dentist, or the use of increasingly stronger adhesives.
One of the most effective solutions to these problems is an overdenture supported by implants.
In the case of the lower jaw, by means of a simple surgery done under local anaesthetic, two implants are inserted which will serve to anchor the complete denture. In case of the upper jaw four implants are needed to support the teeth, thus enabling a denture to be used which does not require a palate.
Onto these implants placed
are a few
special fitments which serve to join the denture to the implants.
With this solution the denture is fixed firmly to the implants. It won’t
move any more, it gives stability and comfort, and has the advantage that the denture prosthesis can be removed to ensure correct hygiene and maintenance of the implants.
