Planning a funeral service is a daunting task, especially as it usually happens in a relatively short period of time whilst you're dealing with
grief, but there is one thing that family and friends have in common - they all want a personal and unique service befitting their loved one.
It is all too easy at a difficult time to gratefully accept the first suggestions made to you. It is only as you reflect later that you may wish that you had done things differently.
A Civil Funeral provides you with the opportunity to work alongside a celebrant and create a truly uplifting ceremony, which is totally unique. A celebrant will spend time talking with you, listening to your wishes, hearing your stories about your loved
one. Stories that are funny, sometimes sad, but importantly they are your memories. This gives a true sense of the person who has died, reflecting their nature and character with sensitivity and respect.
Acknowledging any life challenges they may have faced in their journey but remembering that they laughed too. Importantly you can celebrate the life that has been lived, the life that you have shared. Hearing the rich tapestry of their life story as it
is told.
You may wish to participate with tributes or readings and choice of music. You can include symbolic, spiritual or religious elements that are meaningful to your family beliefs and values. There are no set rules. It is about your choices; the ceremony is your last goodbye. It’s your final precious gift to your loved one.
I truly believe that there ‘is’ such a thing as a good funeral. It’s important that you know you have choices. A funeral is the last thing you do for your loved one. Make sure it’s the right one.
