vides great details about his subject, and the story of flying off on angels wings to one’s final reward in Heaven is beautiful, regardless of your personal religious beliefs. And the music is amazing, bringing a rarely heard in rock and roll accordion into the mix. “Looking Up” is a wonderful celebration of

life, and “Claw Hammer” is such a catchy tune that I kept pressing the repeat button until I had played it five times in a row. I love what it says about tearing down walls. Elton is back, full tilt. Not that he ever left, but there’s a joy and musical magic that I have not heard this strongly since The One back in the early nineties.

Johnny I. All Star Blues Re- vival (JIB Music) Johnny I. is Con-

necticut-based singer/songwriter/gui- tarist John Ingrassia, and this guitar-sling-

ing bluesman has enlisted a few very well- known and very well-respected friends in the music industry to join him in the recording of All Star Blues Revival, a terrific three track EP that packs a lot of punch. Mixed by non-other than the legendary

producer, Jim Gaines, the laid back and cool “Late Night”, ventures into the realm of psy- chedelic blues with Johnny I’s groovy guitar licks and the lush B3 sounds of the great Bruce Katz. But wait, there’s more: Jaimoe (Allman Brothers) delivers the beats and Tommy Shannon (SRV Double Trouble) the bass, making for a killer performance. “Avery’s Tune” features Blind Melon’s Glen Graham on drums with Brad Smith mixing. Ingrassia plays his heart out and Graham

The Black Crowe Shake Your Money Maker A Southern Harmony and Musical Companion

Amorica Three Snakes and One Charm (American Recordings) I have to be honest here. Finding these

vinyl remasters in my mail box kind of blew my ever lovin’ mind. The first four Black Crowes LP’s were their best work ever, and hearing them again, reissued on 180g vinyl and remastered, was just a little bit of heaven. All four are presented with the original sleeve artwork, three of the four are delivered as

wails on the drums. This tune truly jams. A fun and funky rhythm drives “Life is Better (2nd Time Around). On this one, Ingrassia enlists Billy Cox (Jimi Hendrix Experience), drummer Chris Layton (SRV Double Trouble) and Reese Wynans (SRV Double Trouble) for this true all-star jam, also mixed by Gaines. All Star Blues Revival is a huge winner in

my book. Three songs are just not enough though. I want more.
