I’m going to have to agree with you. I’ve said forever that the Allman Broth- ers were my favorite band and the Bea- tles come in second. There you go.


It’s like nothing can beat the Brothers in my book or ever will. To go back to the new book for a second, it is called The Allman Brothers Band Memora- bilia: 1969-1976. Right, it’s available now from mupress.org, Amazon, Barnes and Noble- you can also get it at the Big House Museum.

you want to get involved in this, but if you do, the job is yours to take, and my first day I walked in the Big House down there in Macon and there was nobody home but the sister of Duane’s wife Donna. And she told me to make myself at home- whatever - the guys weren’t there. Nobody was there but her. She said, “If you want some iced tea, there’s some in the fridge but there’s two containers. Now, the one with the silver duct tape on it, you don’t really want to try that unless you don’t have anything to do for the next couple of days because it was highly charged with LSD. Electric iced tea! And I said, oh brother what am I getting myself into, but that was, you know, funny from the very first day. Every- body always gets a kick out of that story.


Avoid the duct tape. Yeah. But there were a lot of laughs and a lot of triumphs and then a lot of heartbreaks. I mean it’s no secret. The band had terrible drug problems at one point. Of course, there were the premature deaths of Duane and Berry - so we had lot of laughs, but also a lot of tears. But in my humble opinion, The All-
