Tedeschi Trucks Band Let Me Get By (Deluxe Edition) (Fantasy) Let Me Get

By, the third studio album from the Tedeschi Trucks

Band, may well be their finest effort to date. At least in terms of studio albums. The 12- member band lays down solid grooves with soaring melodies on this 10-song collection, and Susan Tedeschi can do no wrong with that voice of hers. Of course, the same can be said for husband Derek’s slide guitar magic. The band’s recent tribute to Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishmen only served to tighten the huge band, making them the closest thing we have today to the great Delaney & Bonnie and Friends. Kicking off with the horn-driven “Anyhow,”

the album is a funky celebration from begin- ning to end, and beyond. (Via the bonus disc!) The funky title track, “Let Me Get By” is soaked in soulful vibes, and "Don't Know What It Means" brings the funk like Sly & The Family Stone used to deliver. The band gets some help this time by guitar great Doyle Bramhall II. The breakup song, “Hear Me,” is one of

Susan’s best vocals, super-soulful and just plain heartfelt, but “In Every Heart” is proba- bly my favorite tune here - Susan truly makes you feel the lyrics. Beautiful. This Deluxe version includes an 8-track

bonus disc, that features alternate mixes (check out the amazing acoustic “Hear Me,” and “In Every Heart.”), early song takes and

additional studio material (including a sur- prising choice, a cover of David Bowie’s “Oh You Pretty Things” that will stand as a lasting tribute to the rock legend), an expanded booklet with exclusive studio and live photos, and a custom-designed vintage amp box. They say “the third time’s a charm.” As far

as Tedeschi Trucks studio records go, that old saying holds true.

Grateful Dead Fare Thee Well Celebrating 50 Years Of The Grateful Dead (Rhino Records) In celebration of

the 50th anniversary of Grateful Dead, the four surviving original

members - Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann on drums; Phil Lesh on bass; and Bob Weir on guitar and vocals – reunited at Chicago's Soldier Field on the July 4, 2015 weekend for one of the most historical concert events in recent history. Joined by Trey Anastasio, Jeff Chimenti, and Bruce Hornsby, Fare Thee Well was to be the original members' last-ever performance together, although three of the four originals have joined John Mayer to form Dead & Company, which is touring cur- rently. But Phil Lesh is not onboard so this truly is the last Dead show. Recorded 20 years to the day of the last ever Grateful Dead concert with Jerry Garcia, which took place at the same historic venue, Fare Thee Well is the end of an era. An era that has lasted half a century. This is not the Dead at their finest, but how
