ONSTAGE
Blackberry Smoke Brother Hawk The Orange Peel Asheville, NC Thursday, February 4, 2016 Friday, February 5, 2016
Nothing could be better then a two-night
stand from my favorite band, just 60 miles from my house and on my birthday week to boot! When I was first introduced to Blackberry
Smoke what struck me first was the songwrit- ing. Much like my hero Ronnie Van Zant, Charlie writes songs people can relate to that reflect the lives they live. I was hooked from the first listen and I began my search to learn more about this "New" band I had found. Come to find out this "New" band had been out there for a long time building a solid fol- lowing by playing hard and treating each and every fan as a family member. I also found a community of fans of the band on Facebook that was filled with people who really cared about each other as well as the music that brought them together. The band and their fans love to give back to people who have struggles in life and I think that feeling of community is just who they are and how they have built a solid fan base without any real main steam media coverage to speak of. I have been fortunate enough to see them
play several shows, but never a two-night stand so close to home. I wondered how dif- ferent each show would be and boy did I find out in a hurry. Brother Hawk opened both shows with a
mix of soaring guitar jams and solid vocals. This little 4-piece band played a original style
of jam-based rock and roll that featured high energy jams and great songwriting. Having not ever heard Brother Hawk before, I was impressed with the level of energy and pas- sion they conveyed in their set both nights and cant wait to see them play again. After a short break to reset the stage the
boys from Atlanta hit the stage wide open with a song I had not ever heard them do live, “Leave a Scar.” This song is one of my fa- vorites, and from the sound of the singing in the crowd it is one of everyones else’s fa- vorites as well ( who am I kidding The Broth- ers and Sisters sing along to every single Smoke song)! The band seemed like they were clicking on all cylinders and the songs
