I was that way about the recent auc- tion. I was going through every piece of that memorabilia they had online and looking at checks that had been signed by Frank Fenter or Phil Walden, and then I came across all these checks that were written out to my hometown he- roes, you know Toy and Tommy Cald- well and they had signed and endorsed them you know and I was like, “Oh my gosh,” but the bidding on all that stuff was just going through the roof and I was like, “Well, I’m out,” you know? Well, that was actually second Capricorn auc- tion. They had one years ago that was basi- cally all the contents of the Cotton Avenue offices which were the executive offices, but this last one was I think from the actual Capricorn studios and there was a lot of stuff that got moved down there. I can remember on the second floor of that place, it was just piles and piles of promo folders, contracts.
The way they were selling it too, you know was like “50 copies of this” or “100 copies of this.” You couldn’t buy just one. You had to get them all. You had to buy the whole lot.
It was like, “Well, I don’t know that I need 100 copies of whatever, that Rock Bill poster magazine that they did that had Marshall Tucker on it and all. I’d like to have one or two you know, but anyway, that’s just the way it goes. Ei- ther you can play with the big boys or you can’t and I guess I just can’t right now but maybe one day. We’ll see. There’s still a lot of stuff that’s not that expen- sive that you can pick up and you know, there’s a lot of trading between collectors but mainly I just like to look at the stuff. To me it’s all museum-quality stuff and it’s a part of history.

It’s amazing And all that musical history… from two years with those guys… It’s incredible. And you look at how many recordings that Duane Allman ended up on besides the All- man Brothers in that short period of time.
Wow! He was just all over the place. They used to call him from Atlantic every week to play on something and he would say,
36
Yeah. Those days went by so quickly, I mean, think about it. Duane and Berry were only around for like two or three years.
