Europe a good bit and y’all are getting ready to go back, right? Yeah, we’ll be going back again in June.
And you are going to Australia. Will that be your first time in Australia? It will, yeah. We’re going the end of March to play the Byron Bay Blues Fest, which is a huge festival down there.
Yeah and Byron Bay is the most beautiful place on the planet. That’s what I’ve heard.
I mean, I only know that because of the DVD that was sent to me years ago by my buddy Max who lives there. I’d love to visit there, but you know, it costs a little bit of money to go to the other side of the world. (Laughs) Maybe one day. Exactly, yeah.
Have you guys ever gone to other coun- tries like Japan or any of those places? No, and we actually have talked about that, not only Japan, but South America because we have a lot of fans in South America. You find that out thanks to the internet. You get hit up on the Facebook page by a lot of people from different countries and they let you know, “Hey! You’ve got a fan base here, come on!” You know. I was talking to an Australian journalist yesterday and they were like, “Why is it taking so long for you to get here?” I’m like, “You know, that’s not a real easy trip to make with a band and crew so it’s not like we’ve been putting it off. It’s quite an undertaking.” Plus, you don’t want to go there and just play one show. That would not be worth it. So you have to book a tour, you know. You don’t just drop by Australia. (Laughs)
That’s one way to put it. Very true. Well, a lot of us are all excited about these shows in the South coming up in the next couple of weeks. Of course, Asheville and then back to Atlanta for three nights. One thing I want to ask you about, I saw
you in Atlanta, that’s where I finally got to meet you face-to-face. What’s it like for you guys playing in Atlanta, your hometown? It’s great and it’s great that the shows have been successful, you know, the last several years. We’ve sold out most every Atlanta show we’ve played and it’s just great. It can be stress- ful because everybody’s family comes, you know (Laughs). You saw it back there when we met. It was a zoo backstage.
Or in front of the stage as a matter of fact. I started out sitting in the balcony and some guy was giving me a fit about holding Scott’s seat and I finally just got fed up, and rather than confront him, I just walked on down stairs to the main floor. I got wedged into that mass of hu- manity down there on the floor. It was amazing. All the way back to the wall, you could barely move. I was like, “Wow!” And my friend Scott, he gets right down there, I mean, you know, he’s not much younger than me but he’ll get right down there and push his way up front and get right in that front mosh pit area. (Laughs) Man, I’ve never been one to do that. Never.
I just can’t. I had a girlfriend, years ago, when I was in my early twenties. This was the one and only time I’ve ever seen the Stones. It was the Voodoo Lounge tour. I think that was in like ’93 or ’94. She wanted to go down, well, she wanted to sneak down. We had pretty good seats anyway and I was like, “No! I want to sit right here and enjoy the show.” I don’t want to get down there where I can’t move or you know - I’m not one to go jump into the pit. I never have been. Maybe that’s why I wanted to be on stage instead of in the pit.
Yeah, see, that’s my preference. I’d much rather be the guy on stage or even in the wings or backstage rather than the
