Legal Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar Tyson’s Galleria 2001 International, McLean, VA 22102 (703) 827-9750 Several months ago, while visiting my
buddy Craig Stevens in Maryland, hanging out in D.C. and roaming through Virginia, we ended up at this high-end mall. We were meeting Craig’s wife Belinda to head over to watch his Washington Nationals beatmy At- lanta Braves (I don’t want to talk about it). I felt the need for a snack, and Legal Seafood was on the left just as you enter the mall. The idea of a few oysters really sounded good, so while Craig went walking around the Mall, I ducked into Legal and got a table. Legal Seafood is a pretty upscale type
restaurant to be in a Mall. I looked over the menu, taking note of all the entrees they of- fered up, such as Anna’s Backed Boston Scrod (22.95); Portuguese Fisherman’s Stew (16.95); Shrimp and Garlic (23.95) King Crab Legs (45.95); and many others. Today though, all I wanted was oysters. I ordered a half-dozen steamed (12.95) and
a gass of wine. Now, what I had in mind was the oysters I had recently enjoyed at Whitey’s Fish Camp n Jacksonville, Florida. At
Whitey’s, I got a dozen for like $15, and they were huge and tasty. I am disheartened to report that the oysters
I was served at Legal Seafood were six of the tiniest I have ever seen in my life. I mean small! Not only that, but they tasted, well, funny. Suddenly visions of the BP Oil spill filled my head! What if?? Nah... Bottom line is, I left hungry and feeling
ripped off. I did tell my waiter, a nice fellow, how I felt. Of course, he didn’t offer a dis- count or anything else. At least I enjoyed the ball game.Well, ex-
cept for the Atlanta losing part. -Michael Buffalo Smith
