Demetre’s Gourmet Grille 1384 E. Main Street Duncan, SC 29334 (864) 433-8788
Demetre’s is located just a minute off of I-
85 on Highway 290 (aka: the Moore-Duncan Hwy. aka: E. Main Street). It’s right off of the road and easy to access, and once inside you can tell that it is a very nice, relaxed atmos- phere. I have now dined at Demetre’s three times.
The first visit was for dinner with friends over a year ago, and the second was lunch shortly thereafter. I recall from the two previous visit enjoying the food. I believe both meals in- volved Greek food, most likely gyro. Last week I met my friend Greg Yeary for
lunch. He is working within walking distance of Demetre’s so we went there. I ordered a Greek salad, and asked for gyro meat on it. I didn’t see it on the menu, but since they offer a gyro sandwich on pita bread, I knew they would whip one up. It was great with Greek dressing. One thing I usually love on the side is the taziki sauce. There’s just doesn’t strike my fancy. It seems too hot or something. I am
sure there are those who would prefer that, but I was used to the sauce from places like the Acropolis in Greenville, SC. My only real complaint was with the pita bread that was served with the salad. I love me some fresh, hot pita, but this bread was cold and stale, like tire rubber. While I have never been one to complain, I kindly asked the really nice waitress if the pita was always that rub- beryand tough. She felt it and her eyes widened. She took a piece back to the kitchen and returned with a fresh, warm serving that was perfect. I can only imagine my previous pita had somehow sat in the window too long. No harm, no foul. Always remember, you are paying your hard earned money for the food, so if it is just inedible, speak up. Life’s too short to eat shoe-leather-pita. One thing to make note of is that Demetre’s
serves big ol’ portions. I had salad left over that stretched over two more meals back at home! I noted that Greg had absolutely no complaints about his lunch, chowing down on the fish sandwich and fries. Good ol’ fried Tilapia. He did mention that it is one of his favorite types of fish. I concur. Demetre’s has a great ambiance, friendly
and professional servers and tasty food. The lunch menu alone features an array of great selections: appetizers like soup, fried moz- zarella, calamari, beer batters mushrooms, Oysters Rockefeller, wings, chicken fingers and potato skins- and that’s just the appetiz- ers! Various salads, entrees and sandwiches of every type help to make this a wonderful restaurant for lunch, as well as for dinner. Buffalo says “check it out!”
