Winter motoring checks - Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. According to the AA you are much more likely to break down in winter. In fact their busiest day ever was Monday 20 December 2010 when AA patrols handled more than 28,000 breakdowns! Now okay, that’s in the UK. But the same principle is true here in Spain.
At Costa Car Clinic we are again offering a FREE WINTER HEALTH CHECK for your car. Why is this important in Spain?
Brakes and Tyres The season has already changed here, we have had lots of rain recently, and the roads are slippery. With all the rubber worn onto the tarmac during the hot summer the rain can turn roads into a virtual ice rink. Your tyres should have at least 3mm of tread for rainy motoring and the tyre pressures need to be correct.
Lights
For obvious reasons in rainy conditions all your lights need to be working properly. You need to make sure you can see and be seen clearly.
Windscreen and Screen wash Now with the lower sun there is more dazzle from your windscreen. Reduce this by keeping the screen clean inside and out. And now is the time to replace your worn wiper blades - which may have deteriorated (even melted away - yes we have seen this) in the hot summer sun. Also, ensure that your screen wash reservoir is
full...use a good quality screen wash, it really does make a difference.
Here at Costa Car Clinic we recommend you follow the AA advice
Battery Even here in Spain a flat (or almost flat) battery is the most common cause of winter breakdowns. A battery more than five years
old may struggle in the wet and cold - get it checked and replaced if necessary to avoid the inconvenience of an unplanned failure.
Antifreeze and Coolant levels It seems strange to worry about antifreeze here in Spain, but the concentration of antifreeze is important to ensure adequate cold temperature protection. It doesn’t have to actually freeze for antifreeze to protect your car’s engine. And naturally the coolant levels that stop your car from overheating are vitally important too.
Our Offer
Here at Costa Car Clinic we will check all these items and more for you FREE OF CHARGE. We have already had vehicles come to us this autumn (and at the time of writing this we’re only in October!) which if properly checked over would not have ended up in our workshop. Call us now, book your car in for a Winter Motoring Check and reduce the risk of a breakdown and make sure that you are equipped to deal with the conditions. Call Costa Car Clinic on 965 761 023 or email
