Our drinks seminars and tastings this year have been co- ordinated by drinks writer and expert susy Atkins. As many of these events will sell out quickly please book your tickets early to avoid disappointment. All bookings can be done via our website : www.dartmouthfoodfestival.com/events All events will take place in the Drinks Theatre, Browns Hotel, 27-29 Victoria Road, unless otherwise stated below.


Friday 23rd October


2.00 - 2.45pm The ‘New’ New Zealand. Guided by Liam steevenson MW taste a diverse and impressive range of fine wines from New Zealand with the Master of Wine who set up Red & White in Devon ten years ago and now represents eight of the country’s top wineries. A showcase of New Zealand’s regional and varietal wines. £8 per person to include simple nibbles.


3.30 - 4.15pm The Fabulous World of Sherry. sherry is a key part of the spanish food experience, so come along to be introduced to the myriad of styles of sherry wines, and learn how to enjoy them with simply cooked, fresh food, exactly as they do in spain. Martin skelton (MD of Gonzalez Byass) and champion of all the unfiltered ‘en rama’ styles of sherry, will tutor a tasting to illustrate sherry’s place alongside food and will offer a tasting of top sherries, from the pale, dry and refreshing, to rich and nutty and even sweet. It is guaranteed to astonish you! £8 per person to include simple nibbles.


6:30 – 8.00pm


Food and Wine Matching in the Flavel Arts Centre. sponsored and hosted by The Royal Castle Hotel, this evening will be led by Luca soldo, who is the ambassador for Antinori, an Italian company who have been making wine for 500 years. Join him on a culinary journey through Italy with a selection of wines to match. £20 per person.


Saturday 24th October


12.00 – 12.45pm


Natural wines, Weird or Wonderful? The Guardian’s wine writer, Fiona Beckett and James Brown discuss natural wines. Made with minimal intervention they are all the rage, but what does ‘natural’ really mean in winemaking, and how different do they taste? Your chance to find out with natural wine expert Fiona and James Brown from Browns Hotel Dartmouth. £8 per person to include simple nibbles.


1.30 - 2.15pm Educate your Taste Buds. Rebecca Mitchell will guide you through a wine aroma and flavour workshop to help you discover your palate. Rebecca is a well-known local wine expert who specialises in education and is a consultant sommelier. she writes about wine for Devon Life magazine. £8 per person to include simple nibbles.


3.00 – 4.00pm


Wine & Spicy Food-Matching Forum. The annual, hugely popular, lively debate/bun-fight between: The Guardian’s Fiona Beckett, also of www.matching foodandwine.com; Tim McLaughlin-Green, wine importer and consultant sommelier to The seahorse; and wine journalist susy Atkins of BBC1’s saturday Kitchen and The sunday Telegraph. This year, we’re daring to match wine with a range of spicy nibbles, from mild to hot, with all the guests encouraged to join in both the debate and the tasting! £10 per person.

Wines from South-West England - A Success Story. With Rebecca Mitchell, consultant and wine educator and susy Atkins, wine writer and broadcaster. As wines made in south-West england go from strength to strength, we will show you a range of the best, sparkling and still, with delicious nibbles to go with them, and discuss why these exquisite, delicate wines are on the rise. £8 per person to include simple nibbles.


Food and Beer Matching in the Flavel Church. sponsored and hosted by The Royal Castle Hotel in connection with local brewery Bays. Join steve, one of the brewers from this great local company, and learn how to match a fine ale with some tasty food. This will be a great opportunity for ale lovers and food lovers alike to really appreciate the great produce from the south West. £20 per person.


Sunday 25th October


12.00 – 12.45pm


Prosecco Brunch. Browns Hotel brings you the perfect way to start your sunday lunchtime - a chance to sip cool, light Prosecco from the heart of Italy’s Veneto with cheese and other nibbles, and an informal chat with Italian food and drink producers and the Festival’s wine experts. A laid-back seminar with plenty to enjoy. £10 per person.
