KINGSWEAR PLAYGROUND
‘DREAMRIDERS’ CAR RALLY DAY OUT The Dreamriders’ Car Rally was one of the lots at the recent fund-raising evening for the proposed playground. Bidders offered a princely £250 to ride in a series of really lovely cars, kindly donated by their drivers who were at the wheel. One of the lucky riders was Mike Goodearl who takes-up the story.........
“We set off in brilliant sunshine from Darthaven Marina at 9.45am on the first Sunday in September in a convoy consisting of a Jaguar XJS, a 3.4 Mark 2 Jaguar, a Bristol 405, a Mercedes SL55AMG, and a Morgan 4 litre plus 8. Next stop, Dartmoor Lodge for coffee and bacon sandwiches where we met up with David Pether in his Aston Martin V12 Vantage and Mike Moorhouse in his Ford GT40. Off we went making various passenger swaps on Dartmoor, in Moreton Hampstead and then Teign House Inn in Christow to enjoy the landlord’s generous supply of sandwiches. Back to Dartmoor Lodge again for goodbyes to David Pether and Mike Moorhouse and finally back to Kingswear. A big thanks to Tony Swainston and Pete Watling for organising such a wonderful day out for the KIngswear Playground Charity funds in such brilliant weather.” It sounds like they had a thoroughly excellent day but
I think it’s about time Mike Goodearl removed his string- backed gloves, Norfolk tweeds and brogues or he will wear his sheets out. Envious. Moi. Mais non!
BRIXHAM COMMUNITY BUS Good news to those who have relied upon the late evening buses from Kingswear to Brixham: a community bus group has been formed to run buses from Kingswear Banjo from 7:25pm up until 11:25pm to replace the ones withdrawn from Service by the previous operator. I understand that the fares will remain the same as they were but the bus will now be known as the 18E. This service starts on September 28th.
This is serious good news for all workers in Dartmouth and Kingswear who need to return to Brixham after late shifts and evening work. Let us hope that it is successful.
FIRE HOME SAFETY I am pleased to let you know (wearing my councillor’s hat) that you can have free fire risk checks at home. Many of us, especially the ones of us advanced in years get complacent
HISTORICAL AND HYSTERICAL Historical and Hysterical is a term which could be used to describe Kingswear Wi but in fact was the title of a recent event hosted by Maggie Duffy who gave WI members a memorable afternoon’s entertainment of songs and stories based on true (or not so true) events around our area. Maggie’s glorious voice and marvellous repertoire of jokes and anecdotes delighted her audience and brightened a dreadful rainy afternoon.
