GALLERIES TAKING PART IN DARTMOUTH GALLERIES FESTIVAL Dart Gallery
Stewart Edmondson Solo Show ‘The light is everything’, a solo show of new work from Dartmoor based artist Stewart Edmondson launches at Dart Gallery on Saturday 24th October. Fans of Stewart’s work and those discovering him for the first time will have much to enjoy. The title of the show ‘The light is everything’ highlights what is so important in Stewart’s work: the light. Whether it’s the sun glinting on a stormy sea, the vast brooding skies of Dartmoor, moonlight over the tumbling Dart River or the dappled floor of a bluebell wood, Stewart’s paintings excel at capturing the ever changing qualities of light in the landscape. For this new collection, Stewart has particularly enjoyed painting on the South Devon coast and the higher reaches of the Dart River. You’ll find much loved spots freshly rendered in Stewart’s energetic, immersive paintings. You should also expect some surprises too. Stewart paints outside in all weathers, a process that allows him to connect thoroughly with the environment he is painting. A recent trip to the Hebridean Island of Eigg saw Stewart fighting off the summer clouds of midges with his signature blowtorch to paint in the fabulous landscapes there. Examples of that work will appear in the show alongside another departure; altogether more intimate paintings of the flora of Devon. While you might be used to seeing Stewart’s vast landscapes, you’ll be equally moved by his response to the flowers and hedgerows that make Devon so special. Stewart will be in the gallery for the first view to talk about his work.
There is nothing like hearing an artist talk directly about the passions and interests that inform his work. Don’t miss this chance to see the
