Rick Hunter, second from right, with members of the ProSlide team at last year’s EAS trade show in Amsterdam
IP: What are the key ingredients required for a successful waterpark ride/attraction? RH: Highest performance (comfort) and entertainment value; highest safety standards; highest capacities; and highest quality materials.
IP: What have been some of the key technology related ‘breakthroughs’ over the years that have allowed you to do new things on attractions, both in what you have been able to actually build and the materials available? RH: ProSlide is motivated to amplify ride performance and comfort – applying imagination to stale, low performing attractions and surpassing them. Your only restriction is your imagination; whatever you can slide on you can ride on. Two ProSlide specific examples are the TORNADO®: Reimagined high-bank riding and the HydroMAGNETIC® technology – Linear Induction Motors (LIM) in a water ride application created a safer standard for water coasters.
60 InterPark January–February 2015
IP: What’s your all-time favourite waterpark attraction and why? RH: Now that we’re connecting TORNADO® technology with other attractions, it has to be the hybrid rides. Combining funnels, walls and HM technology, the performance level is bar none. To name a few installations: Dawwama at Yas Waterworld (HydroMAGNETIC® MAMMOTH® + TORNADO® 60), Kinnaree at Siam Park (TORNADO® 24 + TornadoWAVE™), Holiday World’s Wildebeest and Mammoth (HydroMAGNETIC® ROCKET™ & HydroMAGNETIC® MAMMOTH®).
IP: What state is the global waterpark industry in currently? Is it in a healthy position? RH: The global waterpark industry is in an accelerated growth curve. It’s very well positioned to continue a healthy growth period, all because people love water. As we continually develop our technologies delivering ever-evolving attractions, we are exceeding everyone’s expectations.
