IAAPA Attractions Expo News Quassy to add SBF family thriller

Quassy Amusement and Waterpark in Connecticut, US, officially unveiled its newest family thrill ride during the IAAPA Expo in conjunction with the attraction’s manufacturer, SBF/Visa, and the Italian company’s US representative Rides 4U. To be known as ‘Frantic’ at the park, the manufacturer’s generic name

for the ride is Twist’N Swing 360 and it will be the first ride of its type in New England when it makes its debut in April. The attraction will provide a unique experience as it spins, swings and takes guests through 360 degree revolutions high above the park. At a press conference to reveal the new ride, Quassy President Eric

Anderson said: “We spent a great deal of time researching our options for a new thrill ride and this will certainly be an exceptional addition.” Frantic will feature colourful theming along with a stunning LED lighting

package. Riders will be seated on a circular platform, suspended on a giant pendulum, with locking over the shoulder restraints to secure them in their seats. As the loading platform retracts, the pendulum starts to swing back and forth between its supporting towers. At the same time, the ring of seats begins to rotate as the ride reaches greater heights. The swinging action continues until the ride finally does a series of complete 360 degree flips. Frantic is designed to accommodate children and adults and can be

programmed for three different ride experiences – 80 or 120 degree swing only or the full 360 degrees.

S&S-Sansei unveil spectacular coaster

A spectacular new coaster vehicle was unveiled on the booth of S&S – Sansei Technologies at the IAAPA Expo during a media event to reveal further details of a major new coaster due to make its debut at Six Flags Fiesta Texas this year. The coaster, BATMAN: The Ride, is part of a major expansion of the park’s

Rockville area and will see guests being taken 120ft up an elevator-type hill from where the ‘4D’ winged coaster challenges them to ‘face their fears’ as they flip head-over-heels at least six times along the weightless experience. The ride also incorporates a variety of hills and beyond vertical drops and is currently not available anywhere else in the world. With five, eight passenger vehicles and an imposing floating and twisting

track frame, it will be a spectacular new addition to the park and president Neal Thurman commented: “BATMAN: The Ride is an entirely new concept in ride engineering and will provide a sensory experience like no other coaster. The unanticipated tumbling will add even more thrills as riders travel along the dipping and swirling track.”

Pan updates popular gallery

A number of different shooting galleries were displayed on the Pan Amusements booth at IAAPA, with an updated version of the popular Faulty Repair Shop gallery being the largest of those on show. The eight-player model now features new electronics, an upgraded top sign

and the popular theme of the inside of a garage workshop. Other products on display included the Sideshow, a single player redemption gallery for FECs and arcades and the new four-player County Fair Shootout, developed particularly with the carnival industry in mind.

Dutch company ETF Ride Systems continues to supply its transportation systems to a variety of projects around the world, with managing director Ruud Koppens reporting a good year for the company in 2014. In the Middle East alone, he noted, the company has 10 dark rides on its

order books, the first of which is due to open in the spring of 2015 with others following at the end of the year and into 2016. The week after the IAAPA event, the company was due to hand over

a major ride in China for the Wanda Group, this being an interactive dark ride with a shooting feature from Lagotronics and media content from Pure Imagination. Another dark ride is in the pipeline for a winery in China while a further interactive ride is also due to debut at the new Roermond Yumble project in the Netherlands. Additionally, in June 2014, ETF installed a new ride called Swiss Chocolate Adventure at Verkehrshaus Luzern, Switzerland.

The experience

allows visitors to learn about the discovery, origin, production and transport of chocolate and is a multi-media voyage of discovery. Through a variety in ride path options, ETF was able to create a very imaginative journey for the vehicles and its passengers. The ride consists of 10, six-

seater ETF trackless Multi Mover vehicles, with the ride lay-out showing the flexibility of the ETF system.
