MOVING FLOORS CASE STUDY Moving Floor With Integrated Underwater Treadmill


The Clavadel in Guildford, Surrey is a 32 bedroom, purpose built care centre specialising in post operative rehabilitation and convalescence. One of their most important facilities is the 6m x 4m hydrotherapy pool with moving pool floor and integrated underwater treadmill supplied by Swimming Pool Fitness. This pool is split into two different work areas; a 3m x 4m standard depth swimming and walking area and a 3m x 4m moving swimming pool floor with an integrated underwater treadmill.


The moving swimming pool floor allows all

Alternatively the moving floor surface may be formed by a stainless steel tray to accept tiling to match the pool surround for improved aesthetic appearance, allowing the area to be used for a variety of different activities.


The floor is calculated to support a live load of 2,000 N/m² in dry conditions (= 3 people per m²), and can be used for water disco, aqua aerobics and more. The floor is automatically locked using self locked screws


in all positions.


Large cleaning flaps allow the use of an automatic pool cleaner under the floor overnight, as the area below the floor is free from cables, meaning it is not necessary to employ underwater divers.


No additional concrete support structure is needed and a minimum of site work to the pool tank is required for a KBE moving floor. Installation and adjustments are carried out during one visit, without the need for a return to the site.


The systems are German TÜV approved and comply with European Standard Norm EN.13451-1.

Maintenance is kept simple as all the hydraulics and electrical components are located outside the pool tank. Service visits need only be done once a year and are performed by a certified Variopool engineer together with a team of certified scuba divers. This can be done in a full pool without having to drain the water out as well as in the evening to eliminate any downtime to the pool. SPN
