For Kneale’s A Jolly Good Fellow! PEOPLE NEWS

Certikin’s H&V Field Sales Manager, Graham Kneale has been awarded a much-coveted Fellowship of the Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers (ISPE).

Bestowing the prestigious award, ISPE’s Ross Alcock said: “Graham has been a member for many years and has in that time given a large number of technical presentations at Institute seminars and at SPATEX as part of the ISPE Workshop Programme. He has travelled all round the country to be at various Institute seminars and a great many members and others have benefitted from his enormous wealth of knowledge in his specialist field.” Graham said: “I am honoured to be one of only 20 Fellows of the Institute. It is a privilege to be able to help further H&V knowledge within the UK pool industry. The Fellowship adds gravitas when speaking with consultants about issues facing the control of the environment in swimming pools.” As Field Sales Manager, Graham Kneale covers the UK, Channel Islands, Ireland and the Isle of Man, providing technical support and back up. “I think the job is unique,” add ed Graham. “Requiring many disciplines, I have to be aware of the physics behind heat pumps, and be an expert in psychometrics, building construction, moisture control and energy usage. After the theory is sorted, I then need to have the hands-on practical experience that can solve problems on site, and be able to communicate with architects

and engineers at a theoretical level, builders and pool installers at a practical level, and end users in a non-technical way. All in all, it’s a great job which I thoroughly enjoy!”

At STA’s National Conference on 8 November, it was officially announced that Theo Millward, STA’s current Operations Director, will take over as Chief Executive in 2015 when Roger Millward retires from the post next summer after 20 years of service. Theo, who joined STA full time in 2011 after working for a number of international companies in London, including IBM and Grant Thornton, said it’s an enormous honour and privilege to be appointed CEO of STA. “I am thrilled to be awarded this position and look forward to steering this trusted and globally respected organisation through its

that has been achieved duri ng Roger’s tenure,” said Theo, who has been involved with STA over the last 20 years. Dave Candler, STA President and

Trustee, said: “We are delighted that Theo has taken on this important role. Theo’s intense passion for the organisation and commitment to ensuring STA can be the best it can and provide what is in the best interests of the industry, makes him the natural successor to Roger. “As Operations Director, Theo has led the way with dedication and enthusiasm, creating a very special team at Anchor House and positioning the organisation on a whole new level. And, it is thanks to his innovative approach in introducing an enviable suite of digital products that STA is now the leader in digital leisure services, with the products rapidly becoming the benchmark of quality around the world,” added Dave.

At the conference, Roger Millward also confirmed that after his retirement he will continue to play an active part in STA, working in particular on an international

level with IFSTA members. “While I will miss the day-to-day challenges at STA, the time is right to hand over to a younger person and I have no doubt that under Theo’s leadership STA will continue to succeed and lead the way,” said Roger. “I now look forward to focusing my efforts internationally; I will be working proactively with IFSTA members, ILS and governments in an effort to strengthen global water safety standards and create education- led drowning preventative measures.” Roger joined STA in 1991 as a consultant and was appointed CEO in 1994, when the organisation was best known for producing swimming badges. Today, under Roger’s leadership, STA has grown into the world’s largest swimming teaching and lifesaving organisation and as the founding member of IFSTA works with all of the key swimming nations, representing more than a million members worldwide.

Speaking on behalf of the Trustees, David Candler added: “STA would not be the formidable organisation it is today without Roger. His fearless determination to ensure that STA has a voice in the marketplace is one of the key reasons why we are in such a strong position commercially and financially with a high profile nationally and internationally. We wish Roger all the very best as he steps down as Chief Executive, and we are very pleased he will continue in a consultative role and represent STA at an international level.”
