FILTERS & FILTER MEDIA

contaminants – thereby reducing the amount of chemicals required to create ideal spa conditions – and remove calcium in hard water areas, respectively. Adams continues: “With all major spa brands covered, ordering the correct Darlly filter is easy. However, if you can’t identify the required cartridge, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help.”

REPLACING STEEL – WATERCO FIBREGLASS FILTERS

Around the world fibreglass

Managing Director, Jamie Adams says: “The partnership with Darlly Europe immediately added more than 150 off-the- shelf cartridges to our already extensive range. The comprehensive selection of sizes has proved crucial to our trade customers who work with a wide range of domestic and commercial applications. What’s more, they’re continuing to innovate.” Such innovations include SilverStream – the most advanced filter cartridge range to date. Utilising silver ion technology, its antimicrobial properties help to prevent bacteria and fungi from surviving on the filter’s surface, within the core or in the end cap – resulting in a cleaner, more hygienic, odour-free and longer-lasting filter cartridge. Pure-Stream fits on the end of a garden hose and utilises ion exchange to remove calcium and magnesium: transforming hard water into something similar to pure bottled water. Similarly, the Fill Filters (Grit / Fine) and Darlly Pre-Filter remove common water

pressure tanks are rapidly replacing steel tanks in myriad commercial and industrial applications.

Fibreglass vessels offer a number of advantages compared with steel vessels: • Durability: Fibreglass vessels have a mechanical and chemical resistance superior to steel.

• More lightweight: Fibreglass tanks weigh only one third that of steel vessels, whilst maintaining the same level of strength. This makes them easy to ship and install.

• Easy to maintain: Once installed they are virtually free of maintenance or repairs.

• Withstand high pressure: Means they are an ideal solution for a wide range of applications including water treatment and commercial swimming pools.

REEMAY: Achieving High Water Clarity

There is nothing more important for a pool or spa than the clean, crystal-clear water. For many, this does not always come easy. However, with a few smart choices high water clarity can be easily achieved. Water clarity will depend heavily on the quality of the filtration system. The predominant technologies are sand, DE and cartridge. Each of these systems present pros and cons. Sand is a simple method but requires frequent backwashing and delivers the lowest performance in water. DE delivers high water clarity but also requires backwashing as well as laborious system cleaning. Care should also be taken not to breathe in the dry DE Cartridge filters offer the perfect balance. Water clarity achieved with cartridge filters rivals DE and does not require backwashing. Cartridge filter systems do require cleaning but with a quality filter cartridge this cycle can be dramatically increased.

In fact, the overall effectiveness of a modern filter cartridge depends most importantly on the filtration media. PGI, the makers of REEMAY spunbond polyester media pioneered pool and spa filtration media technology and have been the market leaders in Europe and the US for three decades. Gil Gingell of Darlly Europe says: “REEMAY is known to be the best product in the industry, specified exclusively by Darlly. It holds more dirt, lasts longer and consistently delivers sparkling water. This is because of its strength, quality and high-

performance design. With its unique, trilobal fibres, construction holds sharp, creating even pleats to increase surface area in less space for better filtering. And it’s engineered with continuous filaments so it won’t fray.

“This enhanced filtration performance along with the superior uniformity and strength of REEMAY Filtration Fabric creates a more efficient and long-lasting solution over other filtration media. The trilobal fibre shape of REEMAY media provides up 65% greater surface area. This allows for increased dirt-holding capacity and long- lasting efficiency. The use of this technology is key to maintaining a constant flow as deposits are gathered by the material. High stiffness ensures consistent pleat spacing and particle capture over time preventing collapse under pump pressure. “REEMAY material is resistant to chemicals, an important characteristic for the treated water in a pool or spa,” said Tim Ruesch, Technical Sales Manager for PGI. REEMAY’s in-house testing has shown that alternative materials are less rigid, making the removal of contaminates more difficult. This causes particles to clog the material causing pressure drop. This leads to the life expectancy of the cartridge to deteriorate rapidly “Easy-to-clean REEMAY fabric is durable and strong enough to perform, cleaning after cleaning. Waterco produces a range of fibreglass filters: Micron fibreglass-wound filter vessels (available in top and side mount); and Hydron fibreglass gel coated vessels (available as a split tank, which are ideal for installations with challenging environments). Waterco’s fibreglass wound filters are available up to 2.5m in diameter and are made using the latest available filament winding machine which results in refined consistency and superior quality. In addition, their proprietary technology and advanced manufacturing capabilities have enabled them to incorporate sight glasses and large manholes into high pressure filters. Generally, large manholes and sight glasses are harder to incorporate in high pressure filters, because any opening in a vessel creates a potential weak point or complicates the manufacturing process. However, Waterco undertook significant research and development and its fibreglass engineers specially designed the openings to suit.
