NEWS IN BRIEF
CROWD FUNDING HELPS LAUNCH CHILD POOL ALARM
An entrepreneur who was inspired to develop a foolproof swimming pool alarm for children after a neighbour’s toddler drowned is about to put his vision into production, thanks to the crowd funding platform Funding Tree. Developed in conjunction with Newcastle University’s underwater communications research unit, Dolphin Alarms have launched the device which consists of a bracelet worn by the child and a receiver placed in the water. If the bracelet enters the pool, it instantly transmits a signal through the water to the receiver, triggering an alarm unit which can be placed anywhere in the house. The funds will enable the Didcot-based company to go into full-scale production, and to begin marketing the product to swimming pool owners and hotels with pools in the UK and USA.
TEWKESBURY GETS NEW LEISURE CENTRE GO-AHEAD Planning permission for a new leisure in Tewkesbury has been given the go-ahead with the development likely to cost about £7.5m.
It marks the latest step in a long-running plan to replace the town’s 44-year-old Cascades Leisure Centre. The new centre will
include a 25m main pool as well as a 20m learner/training pool – which will be bigger and deeper than the learner pool at Cascades, allowing more flexibility and the opportunity for more people to train and learn to swim.
A paddling pool, bubble seats, water fountains and water cannons will be among the attractions.
Building work is due to start early next year and be finished 12 months later.
www.swimmingpoolnews.co.uk New Offices A Smart Move For CPC
It’s been another busy year for water treatment specialists Complete Pool Controls (CPC), not least as the company embarked on moving into smart new offices at their Bishops Cleeve site.
Established in March 2007, the Gloucestershire based company now employs nearly 40 staff and with the business growing at such pace, Directors Andy Page and Mark Ramsden decided that a new reception area and offices were essential and work started back in February on converting an existing building that they were already using for storage. After some minor challenges with telephony and planners, the company started working out of the newly revamped building during the summer but held an official opening on 27 September with Great Britain team diver Jack Laugher performing the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Like CPC, 19 year old Jack who is sponsored by the company, has had an amazing year becoming a double Commonwealth Champion and World Series bronze medalist. CPC were the first company to sponsor Jack and he acknowledged that his recent success had been helped thanks to corporate sponsorship which has allowed him to focus on his training and perform to the highest level. In addition to staff, a number clients from within the industry also attended on the day and all raised a glass or two of bubbly to celebrate the official opening and wish the company continued success.

New Products Announced At NIVEKO Dealer Day
On 6 of November, custom-built monopools producer NIVEKO organised an event for all of its dealers from across Europe, with attendees staying near the company’s head office in the famous spa city of Luhačovice. The day’s programme commenced with a welcome breakfast and continued with a presentation of NIVEKO news for 2015. The start was dedicated to introducing the Product portfolio for next year and a helpful ‘Calculation Form’ sale tool – an application that is available online for an easy, fast and illustrative price quotation. The prototype NIVEKO ePool – an automatic intelligent pool controller – was introduced at the Aquanale exhibition in Cologne last year and thanks to
a high level of interest and very positive feedback, it was
launched during the dealer day.
Thanks to 20 years of experience in the production of swimming pools, NIVEKO is continually innovating and always looking ahead. The newly developed prototype NIVEKO Swim Trainer and NIVEKO Hybrid-monopool were also announced for next year. For customers who prefer longer pools, a NEW Trailer with the possibility of an 11m long pool has been prepared. After lunch, the day continued with
a tour of NIVEKO’s production facilities and attendees were able to view all options that are in the company’s product range – basic and exclusive pools, the ePool plus designed parts and components. They were also able to see two running versions from the Exclusive line – the indoor Whisper and the outdoor Evolution which both perfectly demonstrated NIVEKO’s focus on details and quality. The day was rounded off nicely with a casual evening party held in a traditional wine cellar with guests enjoying dinner and plenty of wine!
