Since the last edition, a number of shows have taken place around the globe. SPN has attended three of these – LIW at the NEC, interbad in Stuttgart and Piscine Global in Lyon. Each is quite clearly different in terms of location, size, audience and appeal and whilst it would be hard and unfair to compare them against each other, attending them does give an insight into how the market has faired and an insight into what may lay ahead. Of course, when it comes to views on the future, thoughts are exactly that, but the one strong message that was consistent is that people are very optimistic about the year ahead, particularly for the UK market. The optimism was particularly apparent in Lyon where the event didn’t refl ect the slowing down of a number of European economies.
In this, the fi nal edition of what has been a memorable year, we have a review of the biennial Piscine Global exhibition which after an impressively busy four days, has now fi rmly established itself as the most important show on the worldwide expo calendar. To the delight of both exhibitors and organisers, the formula for the event has been a real success and they have seen it grow into a must-attend industry occasion.
At Lyon, winners of the 2014 EUSA Awards were also announced and it is with great pleasure that we feature the winners in this edition, particularly as four of the 16 were
from the UK. The awards were judged across fi ve categories and received entries from 13 countries which represents some 3,000 swimming pool and spa companies across Europe, so for the UK to pick up a quarter of them is a great endorsement of our domestic market and the quality that exists within it. Congratulations to all the winners from both home and abroad.
With the good weather now a distant memory and Christmas on the horizon, there is time to catch breath but into the New Year, shows will be back on the agendas of many with two taking place here in the UK. First up is the UK Pool & Spa Expo at the NEC and in this issue, we preview the Birmingham show. After that SPATEX takes place in Coventry and our preview for that will appear in our February edition.
Also in this edition, we have features on Filters and Filter Media plus Dosing Pumps and Control Systems – essential, if somewhat unglamorous plant room products that play a crucial part in the water treatment process.
We’ve also features on two product areas that are both seeing impressive growth. Saunas is a market which is seeing a rapid expansion which is far outpacing that of pools and hot tubs whilst Moving Floors is an area that both commercially and on high end installations, is defi nitely one on the rise.
In addition, we’ve also got all the latest industry news from both here in the UK and further afi eld plus a look at swimming lesson provider SwimWay.
So with a round up of this edition complete, all that leaves me to say is I hope you enjoy this issue of SPN and of course, have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. See you in 2015!
