Boyd Creates Exclusive Profit Opportunities With Thomasville and Lane Branded Beds By Gretchen Kast

Boyd Specialty Sleep is leveraging its li- censed Thomasville and Lane brands with the launch of new specialty collections at the Winter Las Vegas Market. Aimed at substantially increasing retailer sales and gross profits, the new Thomasville Momen- tum memory foam line and latex-based Lane Revitalize series will be available for selective distribution. “The strategy behind our line introductions is to offer retailers the opportunity to place profit-producing beds on their floors that carry recognized brand names and will not be ubiquitously distributed,” explained president Den- nis Boyd. “With the many challenges that dealers already face in today’s market, we developed these collections to stop profit erosion and potentially to add as many as 10 points to their gross margins.”

The Thomasville Momentum line delivers exclusive technology and a unique feel un- like any other competing gel products. The three models, retailing from $1,799 to $2,499 in queen, incorporate a 100 percent gel layer adhered to a gel memory foam layer with a new application technology. To maximize heat reduction and airflow, the pure gel layer is hole-punched while the gel memory foam is channel-vented. The lower layers use Boyd’s Gel Flex foam, made from liquefied gel poured into latex. The line’s cream-col- ored stretch knit covers feature Celliant fiber for added cooling—while a blue mesh fab- ric wraps the mattress perimeter of the bed, giving the collection a fresh look. The new Lane Revitalize series is also

designed to give select retailers a competi- tive edge with four new gel-infused latex models set to retail from only $499 to $799

in queen. The series delivers medium-plush to medium-firm feels with contouring sup- port, and features a mesh treatment around the mattress perimeters, a venting layer on the side and a Lyocel material on the bot- tom for advanced strength and durability. All of the models are dressed in Boyd-designed stretch knits that have a flowing pattern for a Zen-like look. “Retailers can divert their cus- tomers to a specialty sleep product carrying a trusted and recognized name, and gener- ate 55 margin points, especially when that bed is not exposed to a lot of competition,” “Boyd explained. “A fantastic brand in the upholstered furniture market, Lane is now a fresh, new brand in the bedding industry.” Visit boydspecialtysleep.com.

By Brooke S. Pisarsky Recognizing that many independent stores face an ongoing battle against large sleep chains on a daily basis, Gold Bond designs product offerings that help differentiate its retail customers from their competitors. The company’s customization program allows re- tailers the opportunity to offer mattresses that have broad consumer appeal and are geared specifically to each dealer’s needs based on market and customer demographics. “By offering products that are customized to customers’ particular wants and needs, retailers—particularly smaller ones—are in turn able to sell to a larger consumer population,” says Gold Bond President Robert Naboicheck. “If they want product to accommodate individuals of the ‘Big and Tall’ demographic, Gold Bond will make it to size. If an older house needs a unique shaped mattress, we can make that too.”

Gold Bond’s “Any Mattress, Any Size” Customization Program Increases Retailer Reach Accepting special orders and building

mattresses and box springs to fit any con- sumer’s specific requirements, Gold Bond’s customization provides independent re- tailers with an additional selling point and helps them reach a wider audience. “Independently-owned retailers don’t

have large marketing budgets like their com- petition and catering to niche markets is a great way to bring new customers in the door,” explains Naboicheck. “Product cus- tomization is not just a trend or a phase. The idea of a tailor-fit bed carries immense ap- peal to the consumer. From bed sets made to fit antique frames to box springs at 3-inch, 5 1/4-inch, and 9-inch heights to extra long mattresses designed for college basketball players, we stock the materials to make any mattress at any size.” Visit goldbondmattress.com.
