lasgow should look at bringing in new powers and new practices to fuel business creation and economic development in the city centre.


Tat was one of the suggestions from the


two-day event Tomorrow’s City Centre delivered by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Urban Land Institute. One idea is for owners of empty city centre


premises to offer them to businesses on 30-day leases – much shorter timescales than are currently available within the marketplace. Te idea came from Dan Hill, a Director of the London-based Future Cities Catapult, an

organisation that aims to develop solutions for the future needs of cities. He is trying to encourage owners to let out shops on a month-to-month basis which would allow early stage businesses to open a shop without being tied down to a long-term lease.
