ScotishPower is also currently recruiting two groups of craſt apprentices for its 2015 intake, with start dates of March and September. Combining learning with earning, apprentices will not only study for a recognised qualification, but will also develop new skills while gaining invaluable knowledge and on-the-job experience. Te Aggreko apprenticeship


programme, based at Aggreko Manufacturing in Dumbarton, is a fundamental element in the development of future engineers and operations managers for the company’s global business. Te programme incorporates


intensive and varied on-the-job training, with apprentices completing their NC qualification within their second year. Tird and


fourth-year apprentices then move into obtaining HNC level qualifications in electrical and mechanical engineering, with tuition fully funded. An apprentice receives experience across all aspects of operations at the facility, including production, testing, logistics and procurement, design, engineering, environmental health and safety, quality and finance. Britain’s largest apprenticeship programmes and operates two award-winning centres – Queenslie Training Centre and Te Skills Academy in Laurieston. ScotishPower has welcomed


more than 56 new people to the company following hundreds of applications for the current intake of 24 apprenticeship and 31 graduate vacancies. Te company is now taking


applications for its 2015 intake and is looking for a variety of skills such as electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as business, marketing and IT. Tese two-year schemes


involve on-the-job experience in a number of different placements, offering exposure to a wide network of colleagues and fellow


training, further experience is gained outside of the manufacturing environment via secondments to various parts of the global business. Tis could include being posted to one of more than 200 global service centres, joining a major event project team or being involved in the on-site commissioning of a multi-megawat power project in Africa, Asia or Latin America.


With 2014 being such an incredible year for sporting events in Scotland, apprentices have played a key part in Aggreko’s Ryder Cup and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games projects. Te technical education and


training, along with the emphasis on personal development, prepares an Aggreko apprentice with the skillset, commitment, passion and drive required to work in a fast-paced and world-leading company such as Aggreko. All of these Glasgow Chamber


members provide quality routes into work for young people through a range of apprenticeships, internships and other schemes, which help provide young people with opportunities and provide Glasgow city region employees with the workforce of today and tomorrow.
