38 . Glasgow Business December 2014
BIG YEAR Two initiatives will help kick-start Glasgow businesses to go greener in 2015 E
veryone’s going green in 2015, thanks to two major initiatives from Glasgow City Council and
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce. While the Council’s Green
Year 2015 plans to make Glasgow one of the greenest cities in Europe by 2020, the Chamber’s Green Business Network aims to encourage companies and organisations to recognise the significant benefits of
operating in an environmentally responsible manner. Being environmentally ‘right on’
is not just about the warm fuzzy feeling you get from knowing that you are doing your bit to preserve the planet – it’s about making real financial savings by reducing overheads associated with costs of energy, water and waste, ensuring that your company complies with environmental legislation (helping avoid fines and negative publicity)
and puting your organisation in a beter position to win new contracts, particularly where customers insist on a commitment to environmental management from their suppliers. More than 50 Glasgow
Chamber members have signed up to the Green Business Network to contribute to the city’s green agenda and help make Glasgow the UK’s greenest city. Te Network’s ambition is to
make it easy for businesses to understand the significant business benefits of becoming green and to make it simple for them to implement green policies and practices, at whatever point they are on their journey to becoming environmentally responsible. Members will benefit from
a suite of training workshops and business improvement programmes, as well as gaining inspiration from Green Leader
