Welcome FOODLOVERS

As I write this, farmers across the West Country, particularly those on the Somerset Levels, are struggling to cope with severe fl ooding. We couldn’t sit back and do nothing, so this issue marks the launch of our initiative to raise money to help our local farmers with the cost of re-building their businesses. See page 6 for more details or visit our website to donate to this important cause. With their plight in mind, it is now more important than ever to support our local producers, and this issue is packed full of ways to do so. We start by showing our appreciation for the small fi shing boats that

battle the elements up and down the south coast to bring us delicious fresh fi sh every week (page 9).

National Butchers’ week is in March too, so turn to page 35 to fi nd out how you can support your local butcher – and remember, don’t be afraid to ask them questions! But if you, like so many of us, fi nd that your time to visit local shops in person is limited, you might be surprised to learn just how many have an online shop you can order from (page 45). Don’t forget Mother’s Day on 30th March either. We have some alternative gift ideas for any foodie mums out there (page 20) and some easy recipes for the little ones to try as a nice surprise – chocolate truffl es anyone? (page 60) We are keeping everything crossed that the weather improves over the coming weeks (hopefully, by the time you are reading this, it already has), so that our farmers and producers can start getting back to normal. But in the meantime, please join us in showing your support.
