St. Marys Primary School - Big Book Bash!

On the 25-27th of November (National Book Week) following a series of Masterclasses, pupils took part in big book bash activities organised by St. Mary’s pupils. Different activities took place over the 3 days. Here are some of the activities: Dress up as a favourite character, puppet making, make your own book cover and book quizzes. We also had a reading riot on each of the 3 days which meant that when a bell was rung, everybody (even the teachers!) read a book for 15 minutes. As an extra surprise, at one lunch time all the Big Book Bash organisers started reading when we were eating our lunch.

Overall the Big Book Bash was a real success. Here is a quote from Mrs Hewitt, the teacher that organised the whole thing with the help from P4-7s “It was a big success and it got everyone talking about books”. By Keira (P6) and Izzy (P5)

A Play in a Day

As soon as Archie started playing his accordion, most of the children, including me, got even more nervous. The atmosphere was

truly

buzzing as all of the parents came striding into the hall with great excitement. I was very nervous and scared at the start of the Play in a Day which was held at St. Mary’s Primary on Monday 9th December.

It was a Play of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ which linked to the P5-6 Advent Assemblies about Victorian Christmas.

It was called a ‘Play in a Day’ because the P5-6 class only had one day to practise and perform the play.

When it was my turn to do my scene as a reindeer, my fear melted away as I and the other reindeer danced to a song ‘Reindeer Style’ – a remake of Gangnam Style. My highlight of the show was dancing and singing to our song ‘Reindeer Style’. I loved doing it as it was a miracle that we did it in just one day! Many thanks to the Tapsalteerie Theatre. I hope everyone enjoyed it.

St Mary’s Nursery have been out and about having fun and looking at and recording the wildlife living on Holmehill and in Ochlochy Park.

We have also visited The MacRobert Centre to see The Boy That Santa forgot. “My favourite bit was the funny dancing at the end.” (Rosie.) Ben’s favourite part was the box of beards.
