Sign of the Times
With Café Continental now opened in the High Street, following a £1.5m investment by the Trust’s Projects Company, another two independent restaurants opened or about to open, the Trust’s well established
‘Dunblane in Bloom’ annual
displays in barrels, planters and hanging baskets, and the improvements being made by other Trust working groups to play parks, green spaces, benches and railings around the town, it is clear that what is being offered the tourist and the visitor has been much improved in recent times. And that was all in hand before Andy Murray’s historic win at Wimbledon!
One of the Trust’s charitable objectives is to promote tourism and now is the right time to be looking again at parking and signage around Dunblane in anticipation of the expected increase in tourist and visitor numbers.
So, in conjunction with Terence O Byrne, Chairman of the Community Council, a 15 page report has been prepared by DDT and sent to local Councillors and Stirling Council officials.
In essence we want to see better directional signage to the 3 principal car parks in the town centre (Millrow, Haining and
Springfield Terrace/TESCO) and clearer directions to the town centre.
We also want something done for Tour buses to avoid the double yellow line parking and, although we appreciate budgets are tight, for the Council to look again at increasing car parking spaces.
The Trust already has planning approval for a new visitor direction board in the Haining car park and it is hoped this will be the forerunner of other visitor direction boards around the town.
A constructive walk round attended by the Trust, the Community Council and an official from the Stirling Council has been held and we are pleased to announce that a formal meeting with the Council has produced an agreement that they will implement many of our recommendations.
