Newton Primary and Nursery Science and Engineering

As a launch in to our Science Contexts, the second week of term saw everyone being challenged with a home learning task to investigate and research an invention or inventor. It was an exciting day on Friday 30th August when we were all able to share our amazing array of models, drawings, writing and research. We were able to learn about some people we had never even heard of before and had fun! We saw model toasters with real bread, DNA, balloons and even a miniature Dolly the Sheep. Everyone participated fully and many thanks to those who helped us at home.

Our Science Contexts this term are:

P.1 The Enchanted Forest P.2 Forces – Push and Pull P.3 Magnets and Materials P.4 The Journey of Water

P.5 Circuits and Light P.6 Sun, Moon and Stars P.7 Chemical Reactions

A Secret Mission! Primary 2 went on a secret mission in order to explore their topic. They visited the local park to experience ‘Forces in Action’. This meant ‘pushing’ on the roundabout, ‘pulling’ themselves along on the monkey bars and even enjoyed a tug of war!

Playground We would like to thank our PSA for the amazing new games painted on our school playground and in the nursery playground. The super weather in the summer saw so many PSA members coming to the school to help and the results are brilliant. They are a talented bunch – thank you again! We love playing on the new games and it has brightened up our playground. The snakes and spirals are our favourites.

Sharing Learning Afternoon P1.P.7 We were delighted to welcome our parents and carers in to our classrooms for our fi rst Sharing Learning Event of the new term. Classrooms were fi lled with children and parents enjoying literacy and numeracy games. We were proud to show, share and explain our learning.

Early Years Curriculum Evening Thank you to the many parents who were able to come to our Early Years Curriculum Evening. We hope this allowed you to enjoy a snapshot into how we learn in nursery and primary one.
