Population Figure 13.1 shows total and rural population trends in Togo (left axis) and the share of the urban population (right axis). The population of Togo approxi- mately doubled between 1985 and 2010, with increasing urbanization (cur- rently over 40 percent of the population lives in urban areas). The overall population growth rate has been declining slightly since 1980 (Table 13.1).
