West Midlands contracting group Shaylor is on course to complete more than £10 million of education projects before the university academic year begins this month. Shaylor Interiors has been


refurbishing 432 student rooms in Manchester for the student accommodation specialist The Mansion Group. The project will transform accommodation at a number of different sites ready for the new term. In London internal refurbishment


works on The Mansion Group’s accommodation in Chelsea has just been completed. This former office building provides 246 rooms over 10 floors. Shaylor Interiors is also working


on the redevelopment of another Mansion Group project in Nottingham. This £3.95million scheme will provide 140 new flats. At Coventry University, Shaylor


Interiors is re-vamping three floors of accommodation at the Maurice Foss Hall of residence. At The University of Birmingham the nuclear physics laboratories and office space are being improved. Stuart Taylor, director of Shaylor

Norland, one of the UK’s fastest growing facilities management providers, has been appointed by the NEC Group for building and facilities management services. The multimillion pound contract encompasses the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham; the International Convention Centre (the ICC); the LG Arena and the National Indoor Arena (the NIA) and includes planned and reactive mechanical, electrical and building fabric maintenance as well as post-room services.


Brian Pell, director of operations at the NEC Group, said: “Norland clearly understands it’s all about the customer experience which reflects our own philosophy of Bringing Live to Life for our visitors. Their obvious commitment, technical ability and partnering approach have been apparent throughout the mobilisation period.” Norland’s contract covers the building management


systems, combustion and refrigeration, escalators, public address systems, CCTV, radio and fire systems, water treatment, lifts and catering equipment as well as a range of ancillary exhibition services.

awarded the contract by The Student Development Partnership after winning it through a competitive tender process. The construction firm has previously worked for the partnership’s operator Victoria Hall on its Nottingham and Leicester student residences, but this project is the largest build and budget Clegg Construction has been given by the client. Construction has completed a reduced level excavation of the site and begun removing any ground contamination and has started to lay the foundations for the three blocks of flats.


Construction, said: “We’re thrilled that Victoria Hall has come back to us for this project, they are an excellent client to work for. We’ve built a really


successful relationship with the developers and this build is their most challenging brief to date. “Not only is it a large-scale project, but the building site is very restricted. It is bound by the new Selly Oak bypass, a railway line and a brook. Therefore careful planning was required to ensure that we make the most of the space available for the building works.” The project is still in its very early stages. So far Clegg
