MP stages jobs fair C

annock MP Aidan Burley is doing his bit to help the unemployed in his constituency by holding a jobs

fair in Hednesford. The event – the third in the past year

organised by the MP – was held at a former Lucas factory, the Lightworks, and was attended by more than 600 job seekers. Also in attendance were 28 local businesses

and organisations, all of whom had jobs and positions available. They included Staffordshire Police, Bluebird Care, Amazon and Tesco, recruiting for its new store in Hednesford. Hednesford Traders Association, South

Staffordshire College and Job Centre Plus helped organise the event. Visitors to the fair had the opportunity to

attend free seminars and workshops including 'Interview Skills and Training' and 'Starting your own Business', with the latter given by Birmingham entrepreneur and Chase Chamber member Steve Dingley, of Business Coaching. The Chamber itself also supported the event

and Frances Bishoy, from the membership team, said: “In the current economic climate these events are crucial for people seeking employment and also for those who are thinking of starting up their own business”. Mr Burley said: "After the success of last

year's events in Cannock and Rugeley, I was determined to hold a jobs fair in Hednesford in order to give more local people the chance to meet and network with potential employers and hopefully take that step toward getting a job.”

New look for college campus

The Cannock campus of South Staffordshire College is set to undergo a major refurbishment this year. The refurbishment will allow greater numbers

of students to take up courses, and there will also be provision for students to kick off their entrepreneurial careers by launching businesses while still at the college. College deputy principal Mark Robertson said:

“One of our greatest contributions to the people of Cannock, and the surrounding area, is to enable them to access a wide range of courses that meets their needs. “Whether it’s one of our local 16-year-olds embarking on a career path, an older student progressing towards higher and degree levels or someone who wants to acquire a new professional or personal skill, we pride ourselves on offering a dynamic and responsive range of options.

“When completed our new building’s

architectural features will be enhanced, giving it a contemporary look to reflect the modern curriculum taught at the Campus.”

During the refurbishment period, courses will

be delivered either at the nearby Progress Centre, at the White House or at Crown House in Beecroft Road.
