CHOOSE YOUR TREATMENT Cosmetic Hair LossTreatments Premature hair loss can be pretty devastating and can affect both men and women.

If you’re not in the market for a full-on hair transplant, thankfully there are a number of non-surgical options available today, from over-the-counter products through to more permanent solutions.

Who does it? Who is suitable?

● Hair Specialist

There are several different types of hair loss, from the common-or-garden 'male pattern baldness' - real name 'androgenic alopecia' - to the rarer 'alopecia areata', where clumps of hair fall out.

For the latter problem, hair does usually grow back eventually, but male pattern baldness tends to be degenerative – i.e. it will keep on going! If this is your problem, you are probably a candidate for cosmetic hair replication.

What’s the treatment like?

Over-the-counter products include hair pieces, camouflage products and hair volumisers, as well as some herbal preparations. Minoxidil (known as Regaine) is a lotion that you rub on the scalp, which can slow down hair loss and stimulate new growth. This is not a one-off treatment as it needs to be applied constantly.

You can also get prescription drugs, but these need to be taken every day, for the rest of your life, to be effective.

Micro HairTechnique, or MHT® , is a scalp pigmentation

procedure to create the appearance of a cropped hairstyle. It can also be used to camouflage transplant scarring.

Although pigments and needles are used in MHT it does differ hugely from traditional tattooing in that the needles are disposed of clinically after every treatment. Also the pigments are specially formulated and do not change colour after insertion like traditional tattoo inks.

Generally two treatment sessions are required, and treatment time is totally dependent upon the extent of hair loss. On average a typical treatment takes three to four hours for the initial appointment and two to three hours for any follow-ups.

What happens afterwards?

There is no downtime with any of these treatments. Cost From £50 to £2,000

What will my front hairline look like?

IanWatson of HIS Hair Clinic explains how it is possible to create any effect with MHT®

The hairline is usually the first thing you see when you look at a person’s hair, so it is unsurprising that this is the first question we are often asked. The MHT®

HairTechnique provides total flexibility so we can simulate any hairline.

A Soft Hairline This is often requested as many clients see this as a ‘safe’ option, as the change in their appearance won’t be as obvious. They are also a good choice for fair-haired or fair-skinned clients.

A Medium Hairline As MHT®

spreads in popularity

across the world we have begun to treat increasing numbers of clients from different ethnic groups. A more defined hairline is often required to match existing hair colour and blend with skin tone.

A Strong Hairline Often requested to create a modern, youthful hairline that mirror sculpted, presicion-cut hairstyles. It can be suitable for most clients regardless of ethnic background, but often requested by clients of Afro-Caribbean or Asian descent.
